Oh I dunno the hillary nutcracker looks quite classy to me.
Buy one of the shorts, smallest one you can find. Get a half dozen parents to hold a protest outside of mall. Call all media, especially the local Limbaugh/Hannity affiliate radio stations. Call TV too for the “short burning.”
Ask viewers/listeners/readers to avoid all stores in mall, keep kids out of mall, etc.
Call other stores in mall. Let them put heat on mall management.
Call local DA. File a pornography available/in view of minors criminal complaint. Have media there when you do.
Get multiple people to do same.
Launch a “Keep your kids out of the XXX-rated mall” campaign.
Watch them squirm.
When they want you to call it off, agree to do so only after they donate somewhere between $1000 and $10,000 to local home for pregnant teenage girls and/or rape crisis center.
Don't stop with the conservatives. Get the Mothers of America” involved.
short = shirt
I listened, and I have to say that Tom is taking this a bit too far. The $10hr secuirty officer doesn’t knows what the hell he’s talking about, and should be fired. Tom’s instict, that something like this is NOT allowed, is the correct one. A shirt like that might be allowed at some dirty strip mall, but it would never, ever be allowed within eyeshot of the common areas of a regional mall, owned by a national company like GGP.
I work at a similar company, not GGP. Our security officers have the authority to order the store to remove the item, or at least cover it. If the store doesn’t comply immediately, a call would go out to the Security Manager, at home, and he/she would come in and remove it personally, and impose a fine on the store.
What kills me about this is the ho hum attitude over the slow sexualization of our pre-teen girls. At some point it just has to stop. This is just one indication of a much much larger problem out there. What kind of people would first buy....then market such a thing to our children, all under the knowing nose of a giant mall organization? What kind of sick people are these. I just don’t know anymore...and while I am at it, what kind of parent would allow their kid to own such a thing.
Spencer’s has always been a cheap place.
“MALL Shame - Spencer Gifts and General Growth Properties Marketing sex to pre-teen girls.”
Wow. No kidding? Someone should wake up and smell the 80’s.
You were correct, the local media was interested.
I was going to point this out, as well. I remember Spencer’s being a cesspit in the ‘80s, and selling wildly sexualized stuff in malls when I was in junior high.
Yes, I don’t think any of us are prudes, keep stuff like that in Adult sections, not in the middle of the mall. Frankly, I can’t imagine an adult walking around in that. Has our society gone that far? Is there a parent in the country that would allow their child to wear something like this? What kind of business would think so low of the community they serve to even put something like this up for sale? I have had several letters on follow up from people that checked their own local Spencers, and yup....it’s in your community too. At some point a line in the sand needs to be placed. No more. No more.
Other than the bad language, I see nothing wrong with this tee-shirt, I would not allow MY daughters to wear it, but I could see some 18 to 25 y/o young man wearing it. I personally would find it inappropriate anywhere but outside of my property, that is just not my call.
I’ve never seen a mall without a Spencers and the stuff in Spencers has been the same for 25 years.
Local media starting to pick up the issue.

Silence from daily papers and local tv, not even returned emails.
It is required, being such a risque line of business, to have a “Mature Content” warning before entering the store, which I know as a matter of a fact, that they all do. It is my job to make sure they do. This warning should send a red-flag up to parents, and if parents don’t want their “pre-teens” going into the store, they should be attentive enough to keep them out. That is the job of a parent, parenting and supervising. If a child walks into Spencer’s Gift store, they are not allowed to purchase sex toys without ID, and if they do successfully purchase one, that store can be shut down. We are doing our jobs watching your kids, but if you do not like our store, than do your job yourself and keep them out. That simple.
We have a similar carreer field. Mall management is truly a minefield of social ills where individual sensibilities are often pitted against legal rights. Freedom is carefully monitored, and policing takes on a whole new meaning. All it takes to screw it up for everyone is a bad parent or a careless store manager.
