The pickled onion doesn’t fall far from the tree.
It’s easy to be a model of increasing maturity if you start by getting bailed out of a minor-in-possession charge while accompanied by the Secret Service.
How much teaching does one do at preschool? Does traveling in a representational role merit combat pay?
Even the charitable aspects of her rehabilitation penance were salted with various pokes in the eye to social conservatives, including her advocacy of contraception, her studied nonendorsement of the war in Iraq during her book tours, and her clumsy suggestion that she best served America by working for the U.N.
Why are we trying to give her credit for her sister’s good works, by the way?
And who on Earth sold you the bill of goods that W. was stone masoning the altar?
“[It] was his idea to build this beautiful limestone altar,” the First Lady told reporters of the now-permanent fixture at the family’s Crawford, Texas ranch where their daughter will wed on May 10. “It’s the same thing that our house is made of from a local quarry. And they’re the ones that made it.”

It’s astonishing what people can convince themselves if they don’t want to think about something else.
I know my kids are fantastic but they are not without some "growing pains" (pains in the a$$)!
I can't imagine anyone chastizing either of the Bush girls for partying in college. Get over it.
I was only informing another FReeper that this isn’t a “church wedding” as she had posted. I don’t care what style of dress Jenna Bush wore tonight.
It’s hard to imagine a more privileged upbringing. Once upon a time the WASP ruling classes imbued a sense of the responsibilities those privileges entailed. Jenna spent the first three years of her family’s return (so it’s not like the family didn’t understand the scrutiny of the office) to the pinnacle of power and privilege indulging herself, helping to reinforce every liberal talking point about the self-indulgence of the Right.
Now she’s married into a Republican noble house, so she’ll probably start paying more attention to the lessons from her mother about more carefully concealing her country club attitudes (although I think somebody should have at least thought harder about letting her tell the proposal story in such a way as to reveal that she and her boyfriend were already sharing a tent), but it’s hard to imagine how she could have done much more damage to the Republican Party’s fortunes with the middle classes short of knocking over liquor stores.
People gushing about her Texan wholesomeness and so forth are indulging a complete rewrite of history.
Congrats to the newlyweds. May your troubles be small ones.
This! |
and this |
Call me shallow, call me simple, but these make me very happy! Oh to be young again, and to be able to wear such a beautiful gown again! |
O.k., fine:
What lovely clothes the Emperor’s daughter is wearing!
Happy?
This has to be the single most stupid response I've heard all week. Congratulations!
p.s. Your jealousy is showing.
It’s not jealousy to ask people not to strew “let them eat cake” anecdotes about central Texas in the midst of a war and economic downturn.
Give it a break. She’s a lovely young woman who is getting married and you don’t need to be snide about it. Hope your kids were perfect (mine were—haha).
That is a gorgeous dress.
We love Maggie Sottero.
My daughter wore one of her creations last October when she got married.
“Its astonishing what people can convince themselves if they dont want to think about something else.”
At least you and I can agree on this point.
Poor slam at preschool teachers by the way. You must not have a child who has attended one, or be aware of the demands on preschool teachers and the day-today experiences they provide for very low pay, especially in low income settings.
Traveling in a representational role only merits combat pay if you are a Clinton, by her own statements.
Mary, given these twisted BDS statements about the personal qualities of Jenna Bush (and Jenna Bush only, despite the record of far more troubled behaviors by presidential/vice presidential family members over the past 16 years) - this could not be person who has kids.
Enough troll feeding. It’s Mother’s Day! What a joyful day for George and Laura and the rest of the Bush family! Well done, Mr President!
Pfffttttt to you! (I see you have also bought into the media's "We're all gonna die", "the economy's horrid" garbage)
Oh, and I sure hope your mom isn't hurt that you don't celebrate Mother's Day today bacause we're "in the midst of a war and economic downturn".
NO CELEBRATING FOR YOU! And make darn sure you don't have any fun and you don't smile until we're out of Iraq!
Well, you are the best humored drip I have encountered lately!!!
Sorry. Somehow, I missed that.
I’ll be signing up for remedial thread reading at my next opportunity.
I don’t mean to call anyone a rube, but face facts:
Jenna is not a Republican, never mind not one of us:
