Yesterday, April 30, the State Department released its annual report on terrorism, popularly known as "Country Reports on Terrorism."
This report revealed information about Iran's state sponsorship of terror which has not been given wide coverage in the media:
Iran is very active in training and arming insurgents in Iraq and Hezbollah has been one of the chief instruments through which Iran has done so. In fact, Hezbollah has trained insurgents both inside and outside Iraq and US forces captured a high level Hezbollah officer during 2007 (something that most people have long since forgotten). This debunks the theory promoted by some in the West that Hezbollah does not operate outside of Lebanon.
Despite the fact that Iran is Shiite and the Taliban are Salafist Sunni, Iran has provided the Taliban in Afghanistan with a wide array of weaponry, which the guerillas have then turned on American forces. This alone should be a blockbuster revelation, though there has been no mention of it in the media.
Iran continues to harbor an undisclosed number of Al Qaeda personnel, many of which fled Afghanistan into Iran after the US overthrew the Taliban and scattered Al Qaeda terrorists from their strongholds.
The State Department is too easy on Iran in terms of its cooperation with Al Qaeda. We can go all the way back to the 9/11 Commission Report to follow a trail of cooperation between Iran and Al Qaeda dating back to 1993.
Nevertheless, for a report written by the US State Department, this is about as strong a statement of Iran's widespread and active support for terrorism as you will ever see.
I suspect we are giving massive support to Israel as they plan a devastating attack on Iran. Godspeed!
