They endured their separation in the war and enjoyed more than 70 years together. They were the happiest most generous people I have ever known, no children of their own but caring for many and dearly loved. Their marriage is a model to me - to have seen tenderness, protectiveness, honor, gentle amusement and enjoyment last for seventy years gives me an example to follow.
