There is a story, often told, that upon exiting the Constitutional Convention Benjamin Franklin was approached by a group of citizens asking what sort of government the delegates had created. His answer was: "A republic, if you can keep it." The brevity of that response should not cause us to under-value its essential meaning: democratic republics are not merely founded upon the consent of the people, they are also absolutely dependent upon the active and informed involvement of the people for their continued good health.1
If I have called your attention to this message, I have reasonable grounds to believe, based on messages you have posted here, that you understand the dire situation that now faces the republic given to us by the founders of our nation. Specifically, you have expressed one of the following:
If I have erred in including you in this list and you do not agree, I apologize.
If you are yet to be convinced that McCain is just another Democrat and another socialist liberal regardless of the letter beside his name, this message is not for you.
This message is specifically for those who agree that an alternative to McCain, Clinton, and Obama must be found, or that the Republican Party, having emphatically objected the conservative agenda, is no longer a suitable vehicle through which our nation can repel the continued march of socialism.
It is time to do to the political elite's monopoly on power, what the grassroots has already done to the media elite's monopoly on information - to break the stranglehold of control by a privileged few.
The purpose of this thread in particular is to have a brainstorming session - I do not have, and do not represent myself as having, all the answers. What I do know is that our nation has made us prosperous beyond anything humanity has ever known before, and we owe it to our nation to repay that favor by acting to save it from "socialists of all parties"2
This is what I would like to do.
First, consolidate the case against McCain so that our fellow Republicans and conservatives can see the folly of holding their noses this time. A good deal of information is already assembled here and here. What you can do is add additional references, and help in the framing of the argument.
Second, if were to be serious, we need to find someone who knows how the game is played and can be convinced of the necessity of finding an alternative to the Big Three. Im no politician, but Ill bet that if we can put heads together we can use the tools at hand to find one or more champions to take this message to a broader group of people. Once we have the case above put together we present it as a petition to prospective champions. I would like to specifically avoid including those who ran campaigns against McCain this year so as not to have this effort misconstrued as payback for their losses. This is a positive effort, not a negative one. Some initial suggestions I can put forth who I believe would be sympathetic to a well-constructed argument: Thomas Sowell, Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Tom McClintock. There is no such thing as too many champions, the more the better.
Third, put together an effor to derail the nomination of McCain at the convention. There is a reason why the candidate is chosen by delegates rather than by direct vote, and candidates like McCain validate the forethought of those who put such a system together. Just because the candidate was chosen by Democrats and other non-Republicans doesn't mean we have to consent to it. In this the advice of our champions and others among us with political experience will be of immense importance.
Fourth, and perhaps most importantly, I believe we can use the tools available to us in 2008, such as social networking and viral marketing, blogs, forums, and file sharing, to create an ongoing and enduring alliance between the disparate groups all working on specific elements of the conservative agenda. RKBA associations, pro-life organizations, third-party efforts and other groups may be focused on different topics, but the threat posed by the socialists afflicts us all equally. Rather than place all our eggs in a single third party basket, we should endeavor to get as many third parties on as many ballots as possible, so that in the future we are not held hostage to the Democrat/Republican government party. Our task would be gargantuan if created from whole cloth; by leveraging the power of existing groups, publications, and social networks, we could have millions of hands building a united front to preserve our Republic.
If you act, this can start right here and right now. Put an end to the helplessness, cast off your resignation - however much or little you have to contribute, bring it to the table. America was born as a free republic - it is time to reclaim our birthright as Americans. We have no guarantee of success, but if we place our trust in God, we may yet again regain His favor.
Please add your ideas as to how we can pursue the items above and pass this along to those who are also interested in seeing our nation free once more.
IMHO They are controlled

Guilty as charged. (google J. Sydney McQueeg)
Not sure we can do a whole lot with this runaway train. If he becomes the POTUS, we need to remove his CFR programing.

Thanks for the ping, gotta run right now, but I’m bookmarking for later. Keep me on your list, I’m on board.
I would suggest however, that both parties are becoming more socialist because, to a greater extent as time passes, that's what the voters want.
(1) the tax reforms of the last 25 years have effectively removed the federal tax burden from the lower 40% income brackets. So this group has every incentive to vote for bigger and bigger government spending, it comes to them at no cost.
(2) As (once) social conservatives age, they become more and more dependent on the entitlement state, and the greedy geezer mentality takes over.
Those trends are going to have to be reversed before a true conservatism can ever return to America. I'm afraid it's going to have to wait until after Americans have had their noses rubbed in socialism's failure. Good and hard.

this comment was put on a thread. “McCain sounds an awful lot like Vladimir Putin.”
I felt my following response answers this thread as well....
No, he sounds like a typical Washington insider that wants as many people sucking on the nipple as possible in order to “get things done”.
He sounds like he’s so stupid in matters of history that instead of having an underlying belief in the individual, he thinks GOVERNMENT is the what makes this country great, not the individual.
He gets up reads the Post/Times, watches the Today show and GMA on Tivo and gets a ‘feel’ for what the American public is “worried” about. Then he just has to get face time and will propose legislation to (insert fad of the moment) in order to protect and serve the American interests.
Of course his butt-buddy, Ted Kennedy and the rest of the dems, are just too happy to be “bipartisan” and “get things done”.
Of course raising taxes, failing to secure our borders, getting rid of the department of miseducation, failing to obtain energy independence because of not drilling for oil and believing in pie in the sky pseudo-science are just not really important.
What we want is boxing regulation and wondering if some dumb@ss is injecting himself with steroids in order to play a game and die in his 40’s or 50’s.
I’d rather let the dems run the bike into the ditch and recover than think this asshat run our country with “bipartisanship”.
McCain is going to be the next president, just without my vote.
Hillary is an empty pantsuit that sounds like every man’s nightmare b#tch of a 20 former wive’s distilled into the absolute essence of a screeching, whining, nagging, sarcastic, know-it-all that will cut your testicles off, mount them on the wall to show her friends and drive him till he drinks himself to sleep every night praying for the Lord to kill him in his sleep.
Obama is the shining pinnacle of a liberal education in race politics and self loathing. He has received the love and understanding of a mixed race family that is still “typically white”. So that even his grandmothers love is “just a white woman sucking up for slavery reparations”. A man whose wife makes several hundred thousand dollars a year, donates less than 10% to charity and still complains about “the gap between rich and poor” and the failure to reach out to the “little people”.
My fellow freepers, I can suck it up and work my tail off for two or four years. I’ve got skills, education, and a good work ethic. I’m lucky enough to have a healthy family whose children have similar traits. The fact that the government is going to get more nipple people on board, just makes the traits of hard work, punctuality, honesty, self discipline and temperance more valuable.
I agree with you about the posting of ideas. All should be welcome, even if it’s not what we want to hear.
You seem like someone who is connected to the RNC or a candidate in some way. Do you know how to get hold of a copy of RNC convention rules ? I for one would like to know if there is even a chance of getting an alternative if McCain has the #delegates he has now, according to the rules.
If McCain truly has this sown up according to the RNC rules, then this year needs to be a get downticket conservatives elected year, and start preparing for 2012.
It’s my conviction that we’re losing this country at a much more important level - the citizenry. We as conservatives have allowed the socialists to control the two most important institutions in a civilized society - the schools and the media. The socialists/Democrats are operating as the Jesuits did - get them by age 7 and they’re yours for life. The Democrats fill young minds with falsehoods, distract them with sex and material goods, and the media follows up with a carefully selected diet of selected reality. Until we start to take back our children, we are simply going to lose to Democrats either at the ballot box, or by alling Democrats to paint quasi-socialists such as McCain as “conservative”.
This effort needs to be as much about education as about finding conservatives to elect.
