"I asked him point blank why these Vietnamese refugees, with no money, friends, or knowledge of the language could be, within a generation, so successful..."
His answer, only a few words, not only floored me but became sort of a razor that has allowed me ever since to slice through all of the rhetoric regarding race relations that Democrats shovel our way during election season:
"We're owed and they aren't."

Hmmm. Shut down the churches’s charities?
great article
If you haven’t read the entire article, you owe yourself a treat to do so. It is very telling.
Owned by whom --> Democrats??? Have they sold themselves to the Democrats in exchange for 50+ years of welfare, social programs, affirmative action? Is that what they think.
To all Blacks who think they're * owned * You're NOT. Even if Black leadership aka ministers have told you you're owned.
Asians have made it in this country because they worked hard. Hispanics from Mexico, Central, and South America are in the process of making it because many are working 2 or 3 jobs.
Blacks need to cut loose that * can't do * attitude and prejudice against those who make through hard work or you'll forever be left out of the main stream. No one is holding you down. You're holding yourselves down.
Disclaimer... that goes out to the people with attitudes. I recognize and admire the many, many Blacks who worked hard and made it...
ping
The Vietnamese escaped to freedom and Blacks of Obamas ilk run from it. Ironic ain’t it? Free and don’t know it.
In the article, it wasn’t Obama who said that. It was a man who was “...working as a prison psychologist in Missouri, and he was pursuing a higher degree in psychology.”
Sheesh.
Wait a minute....did I mis-read this article? Obama didn’t say “we’re owed”, a WISE black man said this. Correct?
Wow! That was excellent.
I never said it was. Per the posting guidelines it was the title of the piece and an excerpt.
I can’t be responsible for the knuckleheads who don’t read the article or ignore what is written in the article and then make irrational statements.
Your concern should be directed to the author. Email him.
It looks like at least two of us managed to read the article. And, the man didn’t say that in defense of the situation, but to explain it. Good article, if read in full.
Incredible, coming from someone who is not related to anyone who was a slave in the US, and who was 2 years old when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed.
We know that Obama is not patriotic and that he disdains the capitalistic system. He joins a church which preaches that God loves black people and hates white people. He openly rejects the premiss of the Declaration of Independence: "All men are created eaqual."
Obviously the Democratic Party's best choice for President of the United States.
A most illuminating piece.
Or perhaps the “obamanation of desolation” for a real biblical ring.
Above is the sentence which should be posted from this article, it has a completely different meaning than the out of context clip being printed in the forum discussion.... The key words are not "we are owed " The key words are "it is crushing us ...and continuing this thought we go nowhere" If people in this forum can not make honest comment in attemps to persuade we loose all credibility...
Ouch. This article gonna leave a bookmark.
It is indeed.
I would encourage everyone to break with Freeper tradition and actually read the whole article. It is one of the best summaries of what Obama should mean but doesn't when he talks about the race issue in this country.
The successful blacks in this country have given up the "we are owed" philosophy and made it on their own. I've known many of them and they are real "melting pot" Americans. Why the black community cannot learn the lesson from their example and their experience is beyond me. But it is clear now that even the great Obama, despite his political success, has not learned it.
Well, no wonder he identifies with the welfare sponges displaced from their New Orleans hovels by Katrina. He's just a "Lower Ninth Ward" type with nicer clothes.
