I just did my taxes today. My wife and I paid a total of just over $25,000 in federal income taxes. That’s a lotta cash. I’d much rather pay that money at the checkout counter and have some control over how much I pay in taxes. I am sick of getting raped by congress and the IRS.

How long did it take?

We just finished ours. We used TaxCut. It took all day. Grand total of 20 pages. What a waste of time and paper.

I went to a tax pro but it still took 2 hours. Calculating the in’s and out’s of my investments, stock trades, mutual fund dividends, etc... took quite awhile.

I asked her (the great lady who does our taxes) about whether or not the tax code has improved or gotten worse in her 18 years of doing taxes. She said its gotten much worse... too complex, too many gotchyas, exceptions, etc... She wants something simpler... even if it means she’ll need to find a new career (read: The Fair Tax). When an experienced tax preparer tells you that you know things aren’t good.

I had the same surprising experience 3 years ago! My tax lady said she was entirely supportive of the Fair Tax.

My tax lady said she was entirely supportive of the Fair Tax.

Every CPA I know here are big Fair Tax supporters. They say tax time is just a burden to them and they would much rather be helping clients make more money than be helping them hide it.
