LOL — I only remember the tail end of “beat”, just before “hippie.” And “beat” was not hip in the midwest town where I grew up. (Even the hippie wasn’t hip — he was just weird.)

I’m glad my conservative grandparents didn’t let their children become hippies, who knows how I would’ve turned out.

As little tykes, we were glued to the set when “Dobie Gillis” came on. We didn’t understand it, but we laughed at Bob Denver’s pre-pubescent screech of “WORK?”

I’m often asked if I was a hippie, because “everyone was.” I dunno. I thought the flower children were stupid cows and could be misled into all kinds of ugliness. I preferred to be different, and I still am! (But don’t get me started!)

Sure enough...they’re inhabiting the halls of government, now.
