Well, there are risks to that, too.
It was interesting. I have never seen any of the movies based on Bram Stoker's book "Dracula," but at about age 16 that book filled me with horror like few others, the major exception being H.P. Lovecraft's short story "The Colour out of Space" which gave me recurring nightmares. (I was never into horror, though a good friend was, so I wound up reading a bit more than I would have liked.)
I re-read "Dracula" a few months ago and found its power to chill little diminished, for all that for me some of the most horrific elements changed from when I was 16. I guess that speaks to the author's ability.
