Code Pink Member Runs For City Council in Oro Valley
01/17/2008 | \/\/ayne

Posted on 01/17/2008 3:27:39 PM PST by \/\/ayne

Code Pink counter-protesters will be interested in this little story. It all started when a Code Pink member named Salette Latas decided to run for city councilperson of the wealthy community town of Oro Valley, AZ (North of Tucson) on a platform of fighting commercial real estate developers and allowing library porn.

I was reading the online newspaper's weekly Saturday political roundup column and I noticed that the Code Pink member was endorsed by my own Republican County Supervisor! The Supervisor is a patriot who attended the Fight For Victory tour of Move America Forward! My immediate thought was that he must not have known about the Code Pink member's sordid past. So I wrote several comments about it using the online newspaper comment forum, which are here: http://regulus2.azstarnet.com/comments/index.php?id=219210. Of course I was immediately attacked in some of the reply comments but I easily defended myself. It is to be noted that this Code Pink person is the one that introduced Saddam Hussein government worker Eman Ahmed Khammas here in Tucson and gave a standing ovation to her propaganda speech falsely accusing American troops of atrocities. Apparently she's now trying to hide her affiliation with Code Pink to get elected. I know I've seen her name on the Tucson Code Pink website, but now it's gone when I do a site search.

Well, the next week she was mentioned again. Here is the link to the comments I made there: http://regulus2.azstarnet.com/comments/index.php?id=220244 And the more angry replies I got on comments about her Code Pink membership, the more information about Code Pink I linked to. By the way, don't be too hard the writing style of steve swiderski. He's a veteran with a brain injury that causes a writing problem. Note: if you don't see "report this comment" at the end of the newspaper post, it's because it's been reported, but then cleared. When it's reported the message is hidden while the newspaper moderators check. Angry liberals use it to hide messages sometimes. Later the coments re-appear if they don't really violate the guidelines, of course.

Yesterday the paper had a story about a blogger who the town Oro Valley tried to censor (in my mind due to McCain-Feingold.) Well, he was a Latas supporter, so that gave me a good reason to post again about Code Pink! Here are those comments: http://regulus2.azstarnet.com/comments/index.php?id=220706 I don't know how much impact my little comments will have but here's to exposing Code Pink members when they try to hide their affiliations to get elected!

The odd thing about the Latas family is Salette's husband is a US Air Force jet fighter combat pilot veteran. She is an Air Force Veteran. Their son is an Army Iraq veteran who unfortunately died of leukemia and spent much time at Walter Reed Hospital being treated. Surely they must have known Code Pink protests there where they visited! Yet she and possibly he is actually a member. Very strange.

She’s for porn in the library? What’s that all about?

Hey Wayne, the local traitors in West Chester have heard of your fine efforts on SPeedway and believe you must be a Blackwater operative coordinating a nationwide effort.

Great job dude, Blackwater needs to give you a raise before Halliburton hires you away.

Great going, \/\/ayne! It’s hard to believe the sheer nuttiness of the hippies-all-grown-up. These two blue star parents ought to be ashamed, but they are proud of their destructive behavior and attitudes. It must suck to be them.

Great work, Wayne! Your work in Tucson and surrounding areas is a fine example of how to fight the left. And your dedication is incredible. Thank you for all your hard work out there!

She’s for porn in the library? What’s that all about?

That's a big movement sponsored by the ACLU to allow internet porn in libraries. Even left wing librarians usually want anti-porn filters because it keeps some of the weirdos out of the library. But once the government decides, however, that's it. Individual libraries of a city can't make their own rules.

Tucson already decided to allow internet porn. Shortly after that while checking out some books I told my antsy grandson: "Stay close! Thanks to the City Council, you can't wander around the library alone like Grandpa did when he was a child." The librarian managed to laugh and look sad at the same time.

One of the ACLU lawyers who pioneered library porn cases was recently busted for child porn.

Thanks for the Kudos everyone!

Another day, another newspaper comment posting as the saga continues. In this newspaper column post I ask God to bless Latas, and also ask her to renounce Code Pink and their atrocity lies. It's my hope that she does. I'm also trying to cover all the previous responses in this lengthy post. Any future posts I make today will also be found at this link. http://regulus2.azstarnet.com/comments/index.php?id=221006

I have written and called my County Supervisor asking him to retract the endorsement. He left a message showing that he really didn’t understand about Code Pink. Why should he, since they are a radical fringe group? So I sent some more information. Still waiting to hear from him about a week later.

Well, the Code Pink Berkley story added another chapter to the saga of Tucson's Code Pink Candidate liberal news media cover up as I basically repeat everything. A liberal poster looks up some atrocity claims on liberal websites and links them, then links to a Slate story about recruitment, which I refuted.

Also, newspaper commenter "Dr." Nighthawk, finishing up a tour of duty in the US Army, posted the Navaho language version of the Marine Hymn! All revealed at the newspaper comment link: http://regulus2.azstarnet.com/comments/index.php?id=223175

I’m going to try and call in to the http://www.insidetrackaz.com/ Inside Track Radio Show today at 2:00 pm because Oro Valley Council Candidate Salette Latas is on. I’m going to ask if she is really a member of Code Pink since she introduced the speaker Eman Ahmed Khamas at a troop atrocity accusation speech http://www.americanprotest.net/columns/04142006.php and if she’ll enact legislation similar to Berkeley’s if she gets elected.

Latas has never said she is a member of Code Pink specifically that I know of but introduced that speaker and gave a standing ovation after the speaker said our troops skin prisoners alive “with hot irons,” shoot and bomb civilians. The speaker endorsed Saddam Hussein just before she concluded and got the standing ovation. (I booed.)

According to a blog, Salette Latas helped organize the Code Pink table at the Pima County/Tucson Women’s Commission 30th Anniversary Celebration.

She is also an Air Force veteran and Gold Star mom (her Army Iraqi Veteran son died of leukemia last year) which is how people defend her actions. However, I don’t believe being a veteran or Gold (Blue at the time of the speech) Star parent gives one the right to participate in lies about the troops.

A lot of people seem to think that way, though. I don’t understand why.

The show is streaming on KVOI http://www.kvoi.com/ , starts at 1:00 pm AZ time, Latas interview is at 2:00 pm Arizona time. Remember, we have our own time in Arizona!

Thanks for the information. I've got an absentee ballot (but still might vote in person).

I wasn't motivated to vote, since I don't know anything about the candidates. Now I intend to vote - and make sure Salette Latas is NOT one of them.

We have to vote for 3. Who else is worthy of FReeper support? There is Helen Dankwerth, Bill Garner, Barry Gillaspie and Terry Parish.

I’m not sure because I don’t live there, only near it, in Vail, AZ. They say her opponent is “in the pocket of developers” which would be bad if true, however, I don’t know if that’s true or not.

...I also want to point out that Jeff Latas was the only CD8 candidate to both purchase a program ad (full page no less!) and attend the event. That demonstrates to me a commitment to some of the issues I care about. Not only that, but his wife Salette helped organize the Code Pink table. Very cool. I got to meet both of them after the event and Jeff asked me why I haven't blogged about him in awhile....
I'll keep looking around. See what Ican find. Slim pickings.

Well, it wasn’t much of a call, myself and one other person asked her about Code Pink, she said she’s not a member because they don’t have membership and the conservative host hung up on me. I will post the audio excerpt later.

Here it is, the audio excerpt. There is a liberal and a conservative host, Tom is the liberal and Emil is the conservative. The liberal guy tries to make a joke that Salette Latas is right wing at first, but it doesn't come off, just sounds silly. First caller is a guy who obviously reads my columns, then I come on and the conservative host eventually hangs up on me.

I noticed Salette Latas says there isn't a recruiting station there, she wouldn't stop the Marines from having one, but she wouldn't give them any tax breaks. Also she mentions that Code Pink doesn't have an official membership list. How convenient, also how interesting that she knows all about that!

The rest of the interview that you don't hear is all about local issues like water and Wal-mart. At the start of next hour Emil rants on a bit about how he hates Code Pink, too but this is a local election so it doesn't matter. I had shut off the recorder, though and didn't get that. I don't get that kind of thinking, though. Would you hire a plumber you saw kicking a dog, just because he's a good plumber? I wouldn't.

Well, the Code Pink table organizing Latas won the election with 66 percent where 31 percent voted, just because everyone wanted her to fix their own local issues, I think it's water rights, road problems and they don't want Wal-mart in their fancy-schmancy community.

I guess the supposed conservatives who endorsed and voted for her are willing to have library porn and false accusations against our troops to get what they want. There sure are a lot of strange people in the world, I guess.
