Duncan Hunter to the end

And so it begins. Today is the official beginning of the 2008 Presidential race as the Iowa primary polls are now open. Sigh. I actually say this with hesitation, discouragement and sadness. I have yet to be encouraged about the Republican ticket. Or any ticket for that matter. There is not one true conservative that is currently being considered at the top of the race. On the Republican side – Mitt Romney, John McCain, Rudy Guiliani and now Mike Huckabee are considered front runners and none of which I personally want to support.

And do NOT get me started on Mike Huckabee. Scary. Scary because he is gaining so much momentum and I am not really sure why. Hello! He is not a true conservative, people. Yes he is a strong Christian, even once being a Baptist preacher, and that is why I am afraid he is attracting the evangelical (blind) right. But although he is a social conservative (abortion, same sex marriage, etc) he has liberal stances on spending, free trade, taxes, almost every domestic policy issue. Ugh! Yes I support his faith-based approach to government but his record does not lie. So those of you out there thinking Huckabee is it, I do not agree.

Then there is Duncan Hunter. Oh Duncan Hunter. Ronald Reagan resurrected. As sad as I am that he has not gained the momentum he deserves, I am still going to support him to the end… or at least until March 4th (the Texas primary). All I have to do is remember Ronald Reagan lost in 1976 and we all know how that turned out. I believe Hunter to be the epitome of a true conservative leader and would be a shining light to conservatives in this moderate liberal world. I will not give up! If I had the money to, I would be in Iowa right now working the polls for him (I got the offer to but no funds – if anyone is into sponsorship please let me know!)

That said, obviously obviously obviously, I will definitely support whoever wins the Republican nomination over anyone that is currently on the Democratic ticket. There is no need to get into the fact that they are ALL socialists.

I’ve posted this elsewhere today, but the way I see it, conservatives need to prepare financially for important Presidential primary races. They only come along every other election or so, given races with incumbents or races with popular Democrat presidents (hey, it happened, sort of, once in my lifetime). $400 a year devoted to politics would do it . . . but since the contested races come so infrequently we have to occasionally put out $2,400 to maximally effect the election with our donations. It ends up being less than 1% of the median American household income . . . not much to put behind your beliefs and for your country. . . but it’s a lump sum in one year. So, prepare if you can. I’m sick of RINOs. The $50 and $200 contributions are getting our candidates killed by the money men.

I like the thinking. Conservatives also need to do thier homework and not be buffaloed by a bunch of RINOS talking a good game.

because he is gaining so much momentum and I am not really sure why. Hello! He is not a true conservative, people.

Huckabee's numbers are not surprising to me at all. I'm not a supporter of Huckabee, but I do know that the genius of the Reagan Revolution was that it stole pro-America, conservative Democrats from the Democratic Party. Most of those that were most telling were from the south.

The folks were always pro-America, pro-Defense, pro-God, pro-Guns, pro-Family, pro-Life. They were also pro-jobs, pro-services, pro-safety net democrats.

I can see them setting aside the border controversy in favor of their social and defense issues.

The sad thing is that Duncan Hunter was not glib enough, and activist enough to crash this campaign. Fred Thompson could have had this thing if he had not squandered great momentum from July to September. It appears he has blown it. Those are my two candidates.

My prediction at this point, as I look at those issues is that the Republican nominee is very likely going to be John McCain.

At this point, I would prefer a Cheney draft at a brokered convention, but I know that's a pipe dream.

I fear a Giuliani candidacy, because I'll have to desert the party. I hate the idea of a Romney candidacy because I know he's a fraud.....Giuliani in sheep's clothing.

I’m not sure John McCain has a realistic shot. If he does, than the GOP is in very bad shape. But the same can be siad for several other ‘top tier’ guys.

What Huckabee is proving is that there are many Republicans who are soft on some issues that are important to me.

Pro-life is the most important Right that we have. I’ll support no candidate who is not pro-life.

Pro-defense is really a pro-life issue, so any candidate must be pro-defense.

Pro-gun is really a pro-defense issue, so any candidate must be pro-gun.

Pro-God, pro-America, pro-Natural, Traditional Family, pro-American heavy industry, pro-American jobs, pro-Legal Immigration— these are all important to me.

Pro-Border Security, pro-Campaign Free Speech, pro-Legal Birth Citizenship, pro-Tax reduction, and a few others I can’t think of right now are important to me. I don’t think they are that significant to the formerly democrat Republicans or their offspring.

This is where McCain slips in as an electable alternative to Huckabee.

Duncan Hunter is worthy of the support. He is the ONLY candidate I have any enthusiasm and confidence in. The other candidates really are none too good and are really only garnering support in people voting AGAINST someone else to prevent this person and that person from getting it because they are ‘the lesser of the evils’. Duncan Hunter is the man we need as President, a man who has consistently shown solid leadership, a man who has never failed to impress and has everything I’d want in a leader. The best candidate to come around in 20 yrs. and it is up to people to decide but I know I am supporting the man who could win a general election and he is the man who I honestly support and is my first choice and worthy of the vote. Duncan Hunter is the man and no amount of manipulation will change the fact that he is the candidate I will actually vote FOR and if more people would do that, he would run away with this thing. Nice to see the person that wrote this gets it.

Yes that is the reasdon why we have such bad government. It all comes down to a citizenry that can tell the difference between truth and lies. People, they ALL said good sounding things — but most of them do not mean it.

Politics in our country have become a form of fraud. The nation is ruled by two political machines - the Democrats and Republicans, which are based on self interest. The real motive behind most of these people is “What is in it for me?”

That is what it is all about. Politics today is about legal influence peddling. It is only legal because the sly politicians have found loop holes which allow them to become wealthy off their political positions. Look at the Clintons who now have $30 million. Where did this come from? They haven’t started any business or invented some great new product? They have made their money off being politicians. It is just a disguised form of influence peddling.

I think Huckabee is a lot like Clinton. Huckabee saw how the Clintons made millions off politics and he wants his share too.

When I hear political speaches now, they sound so hollow and fake. I cannot understand how people can actually believe those snake oil salesmen called politicians.

When you hear someone like Duncan Hunter, however you can see that he has a strong record that goes back for many years. He does not sit on the fence. He has bucked the Washington status quo and unfortunately, that is probably why he is not getting any backing from the political system or the media.
