I used to think Lyndon LaRouche took the cake, but I believe Run Paul and his cult have even managed to exceed Lyndon's merry band of weirdos.
I agree; they’re all great examples of “The True Believers” as described in Eric Hoffer’s excellent book. Reason has gone out the window; it’s all about the movement for them. What the guru says is true even when they know it’s not. It’s a strange phenomena yet hilarious; they’re oh so earnest without being a bit serious. Their guru is a fraud and they’re frivolous.
