So what is the purpose of LinkedIN? I might be interested if/WHEN the DUmmie FUnnies wins the 2007 Weblog Awards for FUnniest Blog because then I would be seeking a multi-million dollar book contract.

PJ-Comix,

I was introduced to this site by Duncan Hunter. Basicly the concept is you enter your Proffessional Profile and ask others to join your network.. People can only join with your permission so it maintains the integrity of the thing. The power is in the fact that the system identifies “connections” that you may not be aware of, I only registered a couple of days ago, and I am finding that some folks/friends/collegues that I did not know we knew some of the same people... very simple way to network your contacts... anyway. I have found the outlook tool very handy as well... Let me know if you register, we just might have some common FRiends.

LinkedIn is great, David. I’ve used it to generate good business contacts and keep up with some old friends. See you over there!

Your effort would look a lot more proffessional if you spellchecked the word *proffessional.*

Yeah, yeah, I know. Picky, picky. But resumes, CVs, proposal letters and similar business work really do deserve serious attention and careful editing.

archy,

One of the reason I like the internet/blog/chat/FR so much is that when you post stuff off the top of your head, as we all do, you know that people are saying what they are thinking at the time when you see typos etc.. but I thank you for pointing out my errors.. One of these days I will be able to hire an editor to clean up my stuff before I release it to the “public”.. but for now I am a one man show.. so the typos are gonna happen.. I ask for forgiveness in advance.. :)

I'm a retired newspaperman, and regret to inform you with hanging head that in a moment of weakness, I allowed some of my later pieces to go out under the byline of *Contributing Editor*. This is a matter of just a few late-term blots on an otherwise generally routine career, and I consider the editing jobs with which I was tasked to fill in during the absence of others, as favours for other writers and authors, and while training sometimes overly-enthusiastic *interns* [which we usedta call *cubs*] as at least more-or-less honest work. But my inclination is that good writers and editors should be like cats and dogs.

You don't have to ask forgiveness for making a typo; I do it all the time on first drafts, both from deadline-hurry and as a result of a slightly disabled left hand due to a small but claen 7.62mm hole put through it by a disagreeable youngster who likely went on to become an editor.

Neither does overlooking a more deliberate goof require forgiveness; [unless it's a subject's name: no matter what a person's faults or sins, he deserves the courtesy of having his name spelled correctly] that's an editor's sin, [or the rewrite guy's] and should not necessarily be heaped upon the writer.

But leaving an error that's been noted uncorrected or making it repeatedly until it becomes habit or SOP- yeah, THAT would deserve an *I'm sorry bout that....*

They that will not be counseled, cannot be helped. If you do not hear reason she will rap you on the knuckles.

also:

If you see something that's wrong and don't correct it, then you've just set a new standard

You're welcome, FRiend. We may not be on exactly the same path, but we're certainly heading in the same direction, and very likely are going to wind up at the same destination.

Se you there, pal. Any time I can help out, give me a ping, FReepmail or e-mail.

Hi David. Just a suggestion, but you probably have spell check on your tool bar. It will help edit spelling or typos. Thanks for the PING.

How do I join your network? I’ve seen all kinds of possibilities on there and want to make sure I select the correct option.

Allegra,

Before you can join another persons network you must create a professional profile of your own on the system. When you do this you will be able to VIEW FULL PROFILE from my “public” profile link, which only displays limited information.. the public link to my publicprofile is..

http://www.linkedin.com/in/davidosborne1

registered users can view the FULL profile.

Another shortcut method to make sure you are joining MY network is to FReepmail the e-mail address that you have registered on the LinkedIn network, I can then send you an invitation to join my network with a single click.

Paperdoll,

I don’t bother to spell/grammer check posts on FR I just dont have the time for that.. I type what I am thinking and go on about my business takes about 1 or 2 mins.

However, if you notice any typos/grammer errors on my Professional Profile or website.. please let me know I will correct them immediately. Thanks
