Vote on Stand-Alone DREAM Act Amnesty Bill This Week?
NumbersUSA ^ | 10/23/07 | Roy Beck

Posted on 10/23/2007 12:34:51 AM PDT by Kimberly GG

(October 22) Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has invoked Senate Rule XIV on S. 2205 -- Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin’s (D-Ill.) new stand-alone DREAM Act amnesty bill – which means it can be brought to the Senate floor as early as Tuesday (October 23) without ever having been considered in committee. It is imperative that NumbersUSA members contact their senators to stop S. 2205 dead in its tracks.

Reid must despise this country. Or is he being blackmailed or bribed?

UPDATE:

Senators invited to meet with illegal aliens this afternoon to persuade them to vote amnesty Wed.

UPDATE

Open-borders Senators have plummeted to a new low in advocating amnesty by aiding, abetting and harboring a group of illegal aliens in our United States Capitol today!

Sen. Durbin (D-Ill.), Sen. Lugar (R-Ind.) and Sen. Hagel (R-Neb.) have invited Senators and their staffers to a meeting at 3 p.m. today to learn why they need to pass the DREAM Act amnesty on Wednesday.

Briefing the Senators in the Capitol will be:

“Several students who would benefit from the DREAM Act”
Angela Kelley, Director, Immigration Policy Center
Melissa Lazarin, Director of Education Policy, First Focus
Alfred Campos, Federal Lobbyist, National Education Association
Stephanie Grosser, Outreach & Program Coordinator, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society
Kevin Appleby, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops

In case that isn’t clear enough, anybody who “would benefit from the DREAM Act” is an illegal alien.

Should anybody in the world hold back from trying to come here illegally now that they see that illegal aliens can hang around our Capitol itself with no fear of arrest — and be embraced by our elected officials.

Last week, the Senate voted to protect Sanctuary Cities and their policies to shield illegal aliens. Today, some Senators apparently are declaring the Capitol an illegal-alien sanctuary!

We have now reached this point where the immigration lawlessness that has characterized the border for 20 years, that has suffocated our Southwestern states, south Florida and hundreds of neighborhoods across the country has now moved into the federal Capitol itself — invited by U.S. Senators!!!

If you think the champions of anarchy have gone too far this time, pick up a phone over lunch and call your two U.S. Senators and demand that they commit to vote NO on cloture tomorrow on S. 2205.

PHONE SENATE SWITCHBOARD AT:
202-224-3121

You can get all the direct phone numbers (in D.C. and in the state) for your own two Senators at:
www.NumbersUSA.com/myMembers

I will be sending you more specific figures soon, but you probably should note to each office that the DREAM Act amnesty potentially rewards millions of current illegal aliens, as well as enticing millions more to come.

Instead of passing legislation to improve the lack of enforcement in this country that allowed at least 12 million illegal aliens to settle here, Senators are trying to just continue the 21-year pattern of giving rewards to illegal aliens.

THANKS FOR PHONING RIGHT NOW.

TOMORROW WILL BE TOO LATE.

SENATORS NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU BEFORE THEY MEET WITH THE ILLEGAL ALIENS AT 3 P.M. TODAY.

Senate to vote on giving illegals’ kids a shot at citizenship
USA TODAY’s Kathy Kiely reports this morning on a surprise move certain to set off another heated immigration debate.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid late yesterday signaled his plans to hold a showdown vote tomorrow on the DREAM Act.

Kiely says the measure would give children of illegal immigrants who complete two years of post-secondary education or two years of military service a chance to become citizens. It was part of a larger immigration measure that failed earlier this year. Backers, such as Sen Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., say it gives children who were brought here illegally through no fault of their own a chance to stay in the country they consider home.

Opponents, such as Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., say it’s a backdoor amnesty that could grant citizenship to more than 1 million children and young adults now here illegally.

Tam Tran, the daughter of Vietnamese boat people whose parents and brother were arrested last week after she spoke to USA TODAY, is scheduled to be at a press conference this afternoon hosted by backers of the DREAM act. The bill faces a key vote Wednesday morning.

Reid has also promised to put another piece of the immigration bill — a measure to legalize some agriculture workers — onto the Farm Bill, which is due up soon in the Senate. That measure has bipartisan support from Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Larry Craig.

Update at 12:35 p.m. ET: Kiely is on a conference call with Sen. Dick Durbin. She says the Illinois Democrat is predicting a close vote tomorrow, when he needs 60 votes for debate to proceed.

“We have commitments from about 8 Republicans … we have three or four Democrats who are not in our column at this point. When you do the math you see that puts us somewhere in the mid-50s,” he says.Durbin is hoping to build support overnight. Given the angry response that brought down the comprehensive immigration bill earlier this year, Durbin acknowledges that “it is not the best time to bring it up but I felt a special obligation to try. “

Reg Weaver, president of the 3.2 million-member National Education Association, warned there could be political consequences for lawmakers who oppose the measure. “We will be watching upcoming votes on the DREAM Act very very carefully,” he said.

National Education Ass. is warning those who oppose amnesty. What traitors. I will do whatever I can legally to help defeat Reid when he comes up for reelection. He is a danger to this country.

Press Releases :: October 23, 2007

T.Q. Houlton 202-225-7882
Tancredo Asks Immigration Authorities to Detain Illegal Aliens Attending Durbin Event in U.S. Capitol

( WASHINGTON , D.C. ) – Representative Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) today released a statement regarding an event Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) reportedly plans to hold in conjunction with discussion of the DREAM ACT – an event that will be attended by several illegal aliens.

“I call on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency to detain any illegal aliens at this press conference. Just because these illegal aliens are being used for political gain doesn’t mean they get immunity from the law.”

“If we can’t enforce our laws inside the building where American laws are made, where can we enforce them?”

Tancredo alerted the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency earlier today regarding Durbin’s 3:00 PM meeting.
