“RARTL Action Alert: PEPFAR
Action needed on Monday, February 25! Call, e-mail, or fax.
Urge your Representative in the House to oppose the PEPFAR re-authorization
unless the support for abortion suppliers is removed from the bill.
This is a low visibility action at the federal level, but if you can call
your Representative in the House in Washington, you will be helping to prevent
the conversion of AIDS relief to the abortion cause.
The House Foreign Relations Committee is scheduled to consider renewing the
President’s Emergency Program for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
Through this program,
the US has given life-saving antiretroviral treatment to almost a million
and a half men, women, and children in 15 countries. The US has spent more
than any other country to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa.
However, there is an effort under way to strip the pro-life/pro-family
provisions from the bill and replace them with funding for organizations that
support abortion in these same countries. This will be done by inserting
provisions for “reproductive health services.â€
It is important to let your Representative in the House know that you want
PEPFAR to continue to support AIDS relief in a pro-family way. The hearing
will be this coming week. Contact your House Representative right away.”
