Latest update by Michelle on the SCHIP poster child controversy.

Michelle Malkin: "Interestingly, the Sun asked the Frost parents to verify their claimed income and the couple declined. Also, the Sun reported that all four of the children attend private schools, not just two. The paper is silent on when the family started receiving claimed tuition breaks and how much the family spent on private-school tuition each year prior to the accident–i.e., at a time when they chose not to buy private health insurance."

Note that the Baltimore Sun's reporter uses the word "financial aid," not "almost full scholarships" as Harry Reid's spokesman has claimed:

Baltimore Sun: "The four Frost children depend on financial aid to attend private school, the Frosts say. In addition, they say, Gemma receives money from the city for special education made necessary by her injuries."
The Sun has also decided to stop evading the question of who was driving the SUV at the time of accident...

Baltimore Sun: "Bonnie Frost was driving children Zeke, Graeme and Gemma in Baltimore County in December 2004 when the family SUV hit a patch of black ice and slammed into a tree."

However the Sun's reporter didn't ask whether the children were wearing seat belts. (Does anyone think that if it had been Michelle Malkin who'd had such an accident -God forbid- while driving her children, that the Drive-By-Media would not demand to know if Michelle had buckled her children in?)

We also know that the Baltimore Sun has at least attempted to verify the couple's claimed income by requesting a peek at their tax returns. But:

Baltimore Sun: "The Frosts declined to show The Sun their 2006 income tax returns..."

So the Baltimore Sun, originally determined to absolve the Frost parents of any personal accountability whatever for their own childrens' (a) car safety and (b) health care expenses, has been embarrassed enough by the blogosphere to finally do a little journalistic investigation into the Dems' politicized poster child story. But the taxpaying public still deserve more answers.
