Duncan Hunter and Fred Thompson are supported by 75% of FReepers

Something to think about here... seriously...

If Fred Thompson would do the RIGHT THING, and withdraw from this race, I believe ALL of his supporters will get behind Duncan Hunter, and with 75% of FReepers united for for Duncan Hunter the Dems would be shaking in their boots.. If Fred really was "Drafted" by conservatives as so many folks claim he was needed because there was no real conservative in the race.. but we have Duncan Hunter, and Fred is just "splitting the vote" IMHO.

As folks get to know Duncan Hunter most come to the conslusion that he is CLEARLY the "Reagan-Conservative" in the race.

FOR AMERICA's SAKE -- DROP FRED - GO HUNTER !!

--- FRedHeads, don't take this as an attack on Fred, he just is not the RIGHT man for job at this time --- Duncan Hunter IS ! -------

YOUR SUGGESTION HAS A FATAL FLAW.
One minor detail you forget David.... FR doesn't select the Republican nominee. They don't elect the President either. The WHOLE Republican Party nominates, and the WHOLE country elects the President. FRED has many, many, many more supporters COUNTRY WIDE who think he is the best choice. Duncan has no chance, not even with Fred's help. IMHO

THE A MAN LEADING THE WAY, COUNTRY WIDE!

I did correctly point out that there is no conceivable path for Hunter to win the primary. By definition, that means he is not the "BEST candidate".

In all honesty, I think BringBackTheDraft and W04Man get it right: Even if Hunter can win the primary (a big if)... it seems like he probably doesn't have the appeal to win the general.

The "BEST" candidate by definition also has to have a shot at winning it all. Otherwise, it just doesn't matter.

ahh.. but your response is flawed in that FR is a rather accurate “barometer”.... a place where grassroots activists conservatives like you and I hang out.. and is a good indicator where other conservatives will fall in as the campaigns move forward... I never said that Fred would drop out, I was simly making a “what if” analysis of where his support would likely go if he did. I don’t see FRed supporter going to “Rudy McRomney” in other words.. that was the only point I was making..

David

GCC,

Thank you for your post, I will have to strongly disagree, go back and take a closer look at Duncan Hunter. The biggest challenge for Duncan Hunter IS the PRIMARY, he would EASILY win the General election, which is why the liberal MSM is trying so hard to surpress him..

Tell that to President Forbes and President Keyes.

You are mistaken if you think FR is a 'barometer' of sorts. Missing from the mix are the Rudyites, who were purged, the MittWits, who also have seemed to disappear, and those that don't vote in the FR polls and the spammers from RP that do.

Once again, you are basing your 'hope' for Duncan on a false premise.

Back at ya...

Yeah right.. I guess the only way you can “help” your candidate is by telling folks not to consider Fred Thompson —— Now that’s funny..

That being said...I was undecided, but you just flipped me over to Thompson. I have totally had it with the blatent arrogance of the Hunter supporters, you have gone too far this time. Hope you are proud of yourself.

that is an absolutely fallacious premise that you are deriving from the poll results. the BEST candidate presupposes a decent chance of winning. Duncan Hunter doesn ‘t have it, therefore, he isn’t the best candidate.

If Fred drops out, Rudy wins the nomination. It won’t even be close. Hunter is a great guy, but he has no more chance at winning the nomination that I do, with or without Fred in the race.

This is starting just like the 2000 scenario. Then it was W that the RLC had chosen to get the nomination now it is Fred Thompson because God knows the last person the RLC wants as their nominee is a true conservative. Thompson will talk the conservative talk and then he will do just as W has done, such as keeping the borders wide open so the illegals can keep breaking the laws and the Drug Cartels can continue their operations. Sorry David this is not to disparage Duncan Hunter but you see it in the posts here, the liberal media have already started the mantra and most Conservatives allow the self-fulfilling prophecy to come true that any true conservative is unelectable. Only CFR member RINO’s need apply. Also note that most people here talk about nothing but polls so they are more interested in being manipulated to vote for a “winner” than looking at the issues and where the Candidate really stands. If all the liberal media polls told you that only Arlen Spectre could win the Presidency I’ll bet you a majority of Free Republic members would be singing the praises of Arlen Spectre. The American people are being blatantly manipulated with all these polls and the media loves their power to do it to them.

And you have sources to back up this ridiculous assertion?

What a load of BS. Rudy is the one that the ‘RLC wants as their nominee’. The establishment is dead set against Fred Thompson. Conservatives like me drafted Fred Thompson, because we wanted a viable conservative to vote for in this primary.

While it may be romantic to you to feel all persecuted and helpless at the mercy of the media, but Duncan’s position right now isn’t anyone else’s fault but Duncan Hunter’s.

If Duncan Hunter had been organized or possessed the qualities that people are looking for in a presidential candidate, he would have made a splash at Ames and would be where Mike Huckabee is now. He didn’t and he blew his only chance to get noticed.

You can blame the media all you want, but the facts are the facts.

Yeah, this post is definitely scraping the bottom of the barrel. How ridiculous. I maintain that if Duncan Hunter ran unopposed, he would still lose.

He can show you the facts, but you’ll have to wrap yourself in tinfoil and prey that the men in black from CFR don’t hear the conversation. They’re EVERYWHERE!

With all due respect, I'm not so sure about this. Hunter doesn't seem to have evoked the positive response among "Reagan Democrats" that Thompson has, nor has the mainstream Democratic Party tried to argue against him. I would think if the MSM, influenced by the Democrats, were trying to suppress him we would see more evidence of it.

As an aside, I don't get to vote in the primary until April... much can change between now and then.

You are bonkers.

Hunter may be a great conservative, but his record shows him to be a poor “candidate.”

Fred is a solid, if imperfect conservative, and is a formidable candidate.

Bump to your excellent post.

“Personally, I find Thompson’s more federalist stance far closer to my definition that Hunter’s protectionist-lite pork-barrel version. While I certainly consider Hunter an acceptable candidate, I do not — as do many others — consider him the best candidate.” And I agree with this from kevkrom’s #18.

Finding Hunter acceptable does not make him the best. It isn’t worth the time to disagree with the Hunterites MOST of the time. They are too adamant and usually don’t listen to anyone but themselves. But these posts were excellent and spot on right.

I don’t think Hunter could win under any circumstances.
