Something to think about here... seriously...
If Fred Thompson would do the RIGHT THING, and withdraw from this race, I believe ALL of his supporters will get behind Duncan Hunter, and with 75% of FReepers united for for Duncan Hunter the Dems would be shaking in their boots.. If Fred really was "Drafted" by conservatives as so many folks claim he was needed because there was no real conservative in the race.. but we have Duncan Hunter, and Fred is just "splitting the vote" IMHO.
As folks get to know Duncan Hunter most come to the conslusion that he is CLEARLY the "Reagan-Conservative" in the race.
FOR AMERICA's SAKE -- DROP FRED - GO HUNTER !!
--- FRedHeads, don't take this as an attack on Fred, he just is not the RIGHT man for job at this time --- Duncan Hunter IS ! -------
B4DH !

Better yet, make it Thompson/Hunter '08.
At least Hunter does not have a terrorist fundraiser as an adviser.
actually a lot of folks I have talked to have said that if the Republicans fail to nominate a REAL conservative, the will sit out the General Election.... Personally I disagree with this approach as siting out would all but guarantee the HildaBeast victory... I would like to gather some stats on how many Duncan Hunter supporters will SIT OUT the general election if Duncan Hunter does not win.. I suspect the number will be higher than many folks think.. Personally I WILL hold my nose and vote for the Republican Nomminee if Duncan Hunter is not able to pull it off... but a lot of folks feel very strongly otherwise..
BTTT
I admire your tenacity, but this is simply ludicrous.
Do you disagree with my assertion that IF Fred drops out, which it appears he won’t, that we would in fact have a WINNING candidate in Duncan Hunter?
The fact that Hunter can get 526 users signed up to FR to vote for him would seem impressive to only the most desperate man.
Answer this. Why does Hunter have no organization in Iowa, a full year after he declared?
Yes, I do. Duncan Hunter will not be the Republican nominee for President in 2008. With the historical precedents against a sitting House member, and a relatively unknown one at that, he needed to run a completely unconventional campaign to even have an outside shot at affecting this race. He hasn't, he isn't, and he won't.
You asked for my opinion, there it is. You are, of course, free to disagree with it, but you specifically asked about a "WINNING candidate", and I see no path to victory for Hunter under any circumstance.
It would be a case of HILLARY vs. duncan who?
You have FReepmail.. — It is a posting violation to post any ACTUAL numbers of freepers who support any candidate see...

Yeah right.. LOL Are you trying to convince me or yourself? — I guess the only way you can “help” your candidate is by telling folks not to consider Duncan Hunter —— Now that’s funny..
I think we can sum this whole thing up this way
A typical Fred Thompson supporter says that Duncan Hunter can’t win the PRIMARY, even though he is the BEST candidate... we must settle for the candidate that the MSM tells us can win the PRIMARY before most voters have even taken the time to consider who is in the race..
A typical Duncan Hunter supporter says that considering all the candidates in the race Duncan Hunter is the BEST candidate... and I will support the BEST candidate period.
CONCLUSION — Duncan Hunter IS the BEST candidate, as spoken by 75% of FReepers..
I’ve called Fred Thompson a spoiler Ross Perot from the get-go. IMO the CFR element, the Rockefeller Republicans, who have been running the Republican Party for years now are backing FDT because they do not want a true Conservative in the White House.
PING
Using data from FreeRepublic as a basis for national support of a candidate does not reflect reality. If that were the case, Duncan would have a distinctly larger exposure in polls like Gallup, Harris, and Rasmussen. He barely even registers at the error margin and is included in the "also-ran" category in most.
I said no such thing. Stop twisting my words to fit your desperate agenda.
I did correctly point out that there is no conceivable path for Hunter to win the primary. By definition, that means he is not the "BEST candidate".
There is also this underlying presumption, from where it comes I do not know, that Hunter is automatically the ideal choice for any "true conservative"™. But the fact is, there as many different definitions of "conservative" as there are conservatives, period. Personally, I find Thompson's more federalist stance far closer to my definition that Hunter's protectionist-lite pork-barrel version. While I certainly consider Hunter an acceptable candidate, I do not -- as do many others -- consider him the best candidate.
Then we get into pragmatism. For some reason, people operate under the delusion that the primaries are simply a game of "spot the conservative". It's not that simple. While there are certainly standards any candidate should be held to (e.g., Guiliani is patently unacceptable for both his liberal and authoritarian tendencies), creating too high of a standard means pigeon-holing yourself to candidates who stand no chance of winning because they do not have what it takes to win, that is, some combination national presence, organization, funding, and/or that nebulous "it" factor. The candidate needs to not only beat out his rivals for the nomination, he needs to be capable of winning the general election as well.
Here is how I see it. 25%of the voters may be conservative, 25% may be the “Jay Walking” Liberals and 50% are moderates. Running Hunter one will have to convince the moderates to vote for someone with little name recognition. Reagan didn’t have that problem, everyone knew who he was. (partial thanks to Warner Brothers and B movies.) Duncan vs Hillary is like a repeat of Lazio vs Hillary instead of Rudy vs. Hillary 2000. If you had a choice between Hunter and say a younger Charlton Heston, which one do you think would have the greater voter appeal? Which name would attract the moderate voters? (Rhetorical) Its unfortunate that Presidential Campaigns are becoming more like popularity contests than anything of real substance.
