he had every right to approach the car and question the driver. and then all of this happens.
good cops are going to see this and be less likely to stop suspicious cars for fear of similar scenarios. cops just want to go home safe at the end of their tour. if that means sitting in the car and just filling out reports for crimes that have already happened, so be it.
Those are good points. Although if the cop had just refrained from claiming he’ll make up charges, he’d probably still be on the force. A stern talking-to would be completely appropriate in this situation.

In the video, the cop CLEARY escalates very early into the exchange...almost like HE was looking for a fight. He also sounds like a little girl having a hissy fit.
I know A LOT of cops. . .good ones. And they never would have escalated like that in response to the kid’s questions.
OMG LOL
Hey, there's this bridge in Broklyn...
Should good cops ever threaten to invent charges against detainees? Should it be in their nature to even consider such a thing?
Had the cop refrained from such threats, he might still have his job. But since such threats were in his nature, he should be off the force. Cops whose nature would not lead them to make such threats should have little to worry about.
I disagree. Had the cop been fired on a he said/she said basis and nothing else, you would be correct. This officer acted like a complete a$$h@le, and it was obvious to everyone with 20/200 vision or better.
A good officer will not let himself get baited, will not engage in debates in the street, and will get his job done effectively in a professional manner.
This case should have no negative impact on any good officers, and may give pause to the bad ones, though I doubt that.
