Ladies and Gentlemen, I wish that every one of you had been with Fred4Prez and me this morning to have breakfast with Fred.
It was a packed house at The Barn Door as everyone grabbed a plate for the $100 buffet and headed for the best seats to wait for Fred.
Many prominent citizens and local notables were there, including the mother of Sen. Cornyn, District Attorney Susan Reed, and Mrs. Fred Thompson, who worked the room before Fred's arrival. She was beautiful and poised, shaking everyone's hand and making sure she checked your nametag and called you by name.
And then there was Fred. Taller and more slender in person, he is a man who commands attention and knows how to enter a room.
He connected right away, referring to his hometown of Lewisburg, TN, where Davy Crockett's quote is on the courthouse wall: "Make sure you're right, then go ahead."
He said he followed Crockett to the Alamo and has many fond memories here since his daughter Betsy lived in New Braunfels, 30 mi. north of SA. He and Jeri were up early to speak with their 4-year-old daughter and check on their 11-month-old son.
This, he said, is the reason for his decision to run for President. What are we leaving behind for our children and grandchildren? This is the greatest country in the world and we're in danger of losing that. It's their legacy and we have to protect it; defend it.
That's when he told us the one objective we must have for this war: that everyone should know, friend or foe, that we will not back down and we will not be divided.
He noted that budget deficits are causing big problems and mentioned China, in particular. That the Social Security surplus will be gone, probably in about 10 years.
He touched on his history as an attorney and prosecutor, that he entered the movies playing himself. He spoke of being involved in Watergate. He said if he 'wanted' to be POTUS he'd have done it a long time ago!
He is convinced that to fix these things it will take a monumental group effort and that he's the man to see that it happens. That when government does 'everything for you' it can just as easily take 'everything from you.'
He was awesome.
Pinging a few FRiends...
Frou!! I’m jealous!
I am so J. Not only have I always wanted to visit San Antonio, but I’d love to meet Fred. (sigh)
IB4TG
Pinging trussell!
Pinky, I didn’t forget you, I just didn’t know you were a Fredhead!
Tioga, you bring your pretty self to SA anytime. I can’t promise you Fred, but if you’ll settle for Frou you are welcome!
Watch for the 3rd annual Texas Memorial Shoot, coming to Port Aransas in May ‘08!
Thanks for the ping. I wonder if by sis & BIL were there.
In Before The What?
In Before The Gnats?
Oh I am.
Curious.... did you get a card placed on your windshield at the event?.....
How large was the crowd if you could estimate?
Bump!
The crowd was about 200. There was nothing on my windshield, but there were plenty of goofy-looking Ron Paul people holding their goofy signs.
I did get a sheet about 2 pages which I haven’t inspected yet. And an invitation and a wooden nickle.
I am soooo hoping I will be able to attend the 3rd annual. I am moving (next week) and will have to take time off without pay (since I wont have vacation built up by then). I may have to skip this one :(
What caliber are you up to now? Did you get your CCW yet?
I am so jealous that you got to meet Mr. Thompson!
Good morning EG...
Our friend got to meet Mr. Thompson. Thought you might like to read what she had to say about it. :)
Thanks for reporting in Frou!
Glad you had a good time. Go Fred!
Thanks..... good crowd it seems.
I was curious as I’d read where the RP groupies were suggesting putting cards on all the cars in the parking lot....
He was just so awesome. He didn’t make a ‘speech’ and he wasn’t really rehearsed at all. Just from the heart.
I haven’t been to shoot again because of all the rain and Rocky’s boss wants his .22 back!
Correct.
Please don’t lose your comfort level with what you managed at the last shoot! I want you to shoot my .44 or my .45 next time!
