Buy gold?

It hit $720 yesterday. $730 is the recent high. May be too late? Certainly the ride from $400 has been nice, how long to hang on?

It wasn’t too long ago that the peso was less than one cent

Perhaps you'd post the chart?

Depends on your POV.

Depends if you fear recession or inflation more. Not that they are mutually exclusive -as Jimmy Carter demonstrated.

I lean towards recession myself, but not for another 18-24 months so in the mean time I prefer equities.

Has the (MEX) peso ever been less than or equal to one (US) cent, pre or post Mexican currency crisis? Those foreign exchange websites never fail to lock-up my computer or my brain.

Pre crisis, they were around 3 to the dollar. Now 11, never 100.

“It wasn’t too long ago that ... the Canadian [loonie] was 66 cents.”

While the Canadian dollar appreciated against the U.S. dollar over the past five years, the Canadian economy stalled vis a vis the U.S. economy. I’d rather have a strong economy than a strong dollar. I can hedge currency risk much more easily than I can hedge employment risk.

Sorry, but the Mexican peso had three zeros (!!) dropped from it in 1993. Thus today's 1 peso was 1992's 1000 peso note. Thus the 3 peso to the dollar exchange would mean (in old pesos) 3000 to the dollar, or approximately 30 pesos to the penny. Of course they have centavos back then too. 1/100'th of a Peso, the Mexican penny! (Today the 5 centavo is the smallest coin in circulation)

At the old rate a centavo would be worth 1/3000th of a cent!

Do you think that's what editor-surveyor meant when he said, "It wasn’t too long ago that the peso was less than one cent"?

He was, I guess, trying to say that the peso went up from less than a cent to over 9 cents. You don't think he was right, do you?

Do you remember this gem?

Well it turns out that for a mexican citizen to buy a U.S. made car and import it to mexico is a crime

Yep, the 10 year Treasury Note has a 52 week range of 4.301 - 5.316, that’s what I call “hyperinflation.”

Syrian nuke depot with your pick:
1. NoKo weapons being hidden from the up-coming International Inspectors back in NoKo.
2. Iraqi weapons stored for the “long war”.
3. Iranian weapons enroute to rapid deployment towards Isreal.

The key to all this will be the satellite images and radiation readings. Whadaya think.?

Suzy: The most intriguing aspect is Syria’s non-direct response. They killed that Lebanese leader on 9/19. My guess Syria is covering up and cleaning up their nuclear waste at the “depot”.

We are at war with Islamo-Facists and the key to this war is psychological. This event is of strategic value and is clear evidence of our purpose.
