Ron Paul is the 2008 version of Ross Perot. Hillary’s team is probably sending him campaign contributions and after his inevitable loss in the primaries, will urge him to run as an Independent. That’s the strategy that got Billy Jeff into the White House.

That's a defensible thesis. I'll even go you one further: Ron Paul is an issue for the same reason Ross Perot was, which was the Republicans have forgotten what they're supposed to stand for. Do that long enough, and the base starts to go off the reservation.

I have read about a political pundit saying about the same thing. That MoveOn.org wants Ron Paul to do well enough in the polls to encourage him to run third party, thus the Dems win.
Paul did run for president with the Libertarian Party before he became a Republican.
