Yes, that was said. And it was either an outright lie or just an exaggeration in the heat of the moment.
Murtha is to blame for making it open season on the Marines. Anything that anyone in the media said went by totally unchallenged.

Wasn’t someone saying they shot these guys at point blank range?That was the first thing that jumped out at me when I saw that frame. I had been under the impression from all previous accounts they were practically next to each other. It explains to me very clearly why SSgt. Wuterich opened fire, he was absolutely right in doing so, IMO.

Am I looking at this right? It appears these are the three remaining vehicles (objects with red bars underneath) in the convoy and their relative location to the taxi.
Closest vehicle to taxi
Other 2 vehicles in convoy farther east
Now depending on who's vehicle stopped where, would indicate who was closest to the taxi. Do you guys see the same thing?
