Politically they are free...and as God's children, with their free conscience and unalienable rights endowed by Him, they are also free to do so if they do not harm anyone else or impede others in their exercise of rights.

Having said that, it is also up to us as a society to determine what is and is not harmful to society as a whole.

Finally, they are however, also subject to the consequences...health-wise, emotionally, mentally, and, in my faith, in the life hereafter.

Absolutely considered, we may be free to do evil, but we do not have a right to do evil. The Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule prove that God does not give us the right to do evil. This may seem like a quibble, but it's an important distinction.
