The GOP Gutless Wonders (Joseph Farah Slams GOP Front Runners For Dissing Values Voters Alert)
Worldnetdaily.com ^ | 09/12/2007 | Joseph Farah

Isn't it amazing they all have more important things to do to get elected President than to meet face to face with Christian and Jewish leaders who represent millions and millions of votes?

I tell you it is gut-wrenching fear that kept them away.

They are scared to death of the questions. They're scared to death they won't have a good answer. They're scared to death they might say something they will live to regret.

So, all four of the "front-runners" have decided "to play it safe."

Playing it safe means not showing up, making excuses for their absence and hoping they really can take all those values voters for granted. Surely, they will not vote for Hillary! Surely, they won't sit on their hands.

What the GOP front-runners do? They told the GOP base - Values Voters to go take a hike. If that's the way they want to play it, whoever among them is the eventual nominee will lose to Hillary Clinton next November. The party takes people who care about traditional values for granted. Two terms of Bush are enough. This is beyond stupidity.

Sorry to hear that Thompson will not be attending. It could be his key effort to push ahead in the polls.

Shrug. I’m going to support the three candidates I could vote for in a general in the primary. If the party sees it fit to nominate someone else, I’ll merely vote third party. If enough people join me, we’ll win. If not, we won’t. Either way, I won’t be sitting around 5 years down the road whining about a vote I cast.

Already happening:

I have no idea why Fred isn’t attending, but will try to find out and get back to everyone...

I'm disappointed in him too. Taking the base for granted is NOT the way to win the election. The Democrats had no problem meeting with the gay lobby. Yet here Republicans shun family values voters like the plague. That's political self-immolation. If the GOP front runners dread having to take tough questions from the base, how are they going to stand up to the Democrats? Its a very good question.

If Fred solely debates the second tier candidates , it will only serve to elevate them and make Fred look... well....second tier .

It is a trap that he should avoid , he needs to stay above the fray .

And what exactly is wrong with traditional values? Our does our party's next would be Presidents pay only lip service to it and ask conservatives to give them support but they can't bothered enough to earn conservative support? I won't ever vote for Hillary but I won't vote for any one who ignores me because they think I fear Hillary enough to vote for them anyway. They don't know me.

The Democrats had no problem meeting with the gay lobby. Yet here Republicans shun family values voters like the plague.

Curious dichotomy, is it not?

As for why Fred isn't going to stand on the same stage as Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo and field questions about issues important to conservatives, well, that's fairly obvious. A former abortion lobbyist and current friend of amnesty has little to gain by doing so.

The only reason Fred's candidacy was rolled out by the RNC was because the other three were so obviously repulsive to values voters that they had to find a RINO with a more obscure record.

And Farah really does a fine job closing the deal in the article:

"I'm through with supporting the lesser of two evils.

It just doesn't make any difference in the long run.

If we can't see that after two terms of George W. Bush, then we'll never be able to see it."

But he could force the other front runners to attend. Just by saying - this is our base and we need to earn their support. The way all of the front runners are going about it is pure fear - pure cowardice. The Dems don't take their base for granted.

Maybe we will be lucky and none of them will be the nominee. Farah, is of course, partly right, but I think there is a little more to it than just not wanting to face a few tough questions.

These candidates do not want to be connected with so-called, “religious fundamentalists” or the “religious right”. I have noticed a particular distaste some in the GOP have for these groups. I think some of these groups who have already endorsed one of the top 4 should withdraw their endorsements.

The so-called “values voters” need to get behind a sincere candidate and push him to the top and stop pining after the top 4 who will only take them for granted or indulge them, only, when it is politically expedient to do so.

I was looking forward to this debate too, Joe. I'm disappointed that Rooty, Romney and McCain said no to attending. Thereby leaving Fred with no good reason to attend a debate where his three chief rivals are absent.

I think you're right. If conservatives vote to nominate a Bush retread, they will get Hillary. I abhor that prospect. I'm glad Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo saw fit to participate in the debate. They know these conservative voters are important. Those issues are important to America's future.

And what exactly is wrong with traditional values?

Nothing is wrong with traditional values, and nothing is wrong with demanding them from our leaders. The problem is that venue has such low ratings, it's not worth going to. This does not mean the candidates that are campaigning else wear at the time don't have traditional values, it just means that debate is not worth the time and money.

Its still a great opportunity. He could have changed the dynamics of the campaign. But if he doesn't trust the base, why should the base trust him. Like I said: if the eventual GOP nominee can't take tough questions from conservatives, how is he going to stand up to the Democrats. So I have an even lower opinion of the party's first tier. They are gutless wonders.

Well, what are the questions? Or, is that question also forbidden?

Fred just got into this thing . I say we at least see where he comes down on these issues . The rest of the top tier has been in this race for quite some time and have effectively outed themselves for the RINO’s that they are .

Fred has been sounding pretty good to me , and he has very few past positions that he has to spin .

The only second tier candidates worthy of consideration for the top slot are Hunter and Tancredo , but they are going absolutely nowhere .
