Duncan Hunter vs. Newt: Who is the Conservative??
News Which Cannot Lose ^ | 9/11/07 | Staff

A really nice little article has come to our attention at NWCL. Duncan Hunter has been working hard for America for many years, despite the opposition, both Democrat and Republican.

AN ALIEN IDEA : DENYING WELFARE BENEFITS TO LEGAL IMMIGRANTS IS UNFAIR

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (PA)

January 15, 1995

Just two days after Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich backed back away from a proposal to make legal immigrants ineligible for welfare benefits, a GOP lawmaker introduced legislation to do just that.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Duncan Hunter of California , would bar legal immigrants from receiving food stamps, housing assistance, Supplemental Security Income and Aid to Families with Dependent Children. Immigrants would have three years to become citizens or lose their benefits.

Earlier, Mr. Gingrich, declaring that he was "very pro-legal immigration," had said that the plan, which was written into the GOP's Contract with America , would have to be "revisited."

Mr. Gingrich said the proposal -- which would have affected most of the country's 8.8 million legal immigrants -- was written before Republicans knew they would be in control of Congress and able to find other creative solutions. Insisting that the GOP shouldn't be held to the details of its contract, he said: "We are not going to get trapped into doing something dumb just so you all can say we're consistent."

Unfortunately, some of Mr. Gingrich's colleagues haven't gotten the word. Rep. E. Clay Shaw Jr., chairman of the subcommittee that will consider welfare reform, indicated that he didn't regard the speaker's "offhand comment" as a policy directive.

The legislation introduced by Rep. Hunter would save an estimated $22 billion over five years. That's money the Republicans need to help pay for other welfare reform proposals, tax cuts and other budget-balancing proposals. Admirable as these goals may be, denying benefits to immigrants who observed all the rules and entered the country legally, many of whom work and pay taxes, isn't the way to achieve them.

Moreover, Mr. Gingrich said the proposal was no longer necessary because GOP governors had agreed to accept a five-year freeze on federal money in exchange for state control of the welfare system -- which would save an estimated $40 billion.

The speaker must get the word to other Republicans that there's a new and better game plan on the table.

Hunter would like to embodie the sort of old-school Reaganesque conservatism that the RNC has become the mortal enemy of.

There has been way too much pork barrel spending by him to claim that title. Though basically I think he is mending his ways.

>Nope. He’s a real republican, through and through.<

Those of us who remember what a Republican is supposed to stand for continue to work within the ‘GOP’, which in reality is not so grand anymore. The party has drifted through the years so that now it is quite a bit to the left of where the Democrat Party was in the early ‘60’s!

Actually, it is imperative that this presidential race go way beyond Party to what is best for the survival of the country as we’ve known it. Conservative Democrats and Independents will be attracted to the solid Conservative which Duncan Hunter has always been. He is the man qualified to lead us during these exceptionally critical times

Rep. Hunter is used to fighting the good fight for his country on a daily basis, while managing to remain on good terms with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle, which is no easy attainment.

This honorable man belongs to no special interest groups, and he is not an independently wealthy man. If we want to see him at the helm, it is time to step up to the plate to support his campaign.

Please TODAY write your most generous check to: Hunter for President, and send it to:

Go Hunter 08
9340 Fuerte Drive, Suite 302
La Mesa, CA 91944-4164

That way the campaign receives 100% of your contribution.
The credit card companies skims 5% off the top.

So let’s do it! And let’s replace all the RINOs and leftists in Congress, then together a new Congress and Duncan Hunter can get the country on course to safety and prosperity.

There’s very little difference between those four candidates and the dems and their supporters’ hatred for Christians is quite obvious. Who would have ever thought that Ronald Reagan’s party would come to this? Well, Reagan did say that the democratic party left him. If he had been with us longer, he may have seen the republicans leave him too.

Right now I see no way I can support Thompson or Rudy McRomney with any of my time and effort, even if one of them is the nominee. If and when my friends ask me what I think of them, I am going to tell the truth.

Maxine Waters only had one earmark to Hunter’s, ten. Write ole Maxy in she sounds like a real winner! Club for ChiCom Growth might even dig the Maxinator.

You know the committee Hunter is on and chaired and what his passions as are well as I. That aside you have a point and there are differences in Reagan and Hunter. Each man is his own man and there will only ever be one Reagan and one Hunter.

Hunter opposed Reagan on amnesty in 1986. I don’t think Hunter would have rolled out of Lebanon after the attack on our Marines. So yeah, there are always going to be differences in individuals. I think that it was also one of the major complaints about Reagan in the day that he wanted too much spent on Defense. You know nuclear arms in Europe, Star Wars etc. Some fiscal conservative trying to save a nickel didn’t break the USSR. They went down because they tried to keep up with Reagan and spent themselves out of existence.

I’ll stack Hunter’s “pork” record against anyone’s. Fred’s included.

Are you sure the credit card companies take 5%. That seems odd.

If there is anyone who is more of an anti-communist than Reagan was, it is Hunter.

That is what I have been advised by the campaign, I believe Craig Keller. I know they take at least 3% on charge for goods purchased. It makes sense they would charge more for cash advanced.

Here's a list of names Duncan shouldn't want to join;

John Anderson

H Ross Perot

Pat Buchanan

All of their followers thought highly of them back when they started their campaigns, and even followed them away from the party when they refused to quit.

I’ve had enough of Newt. He jumped the shark a long time ago, and didn’t win any new friends by playing kissy face with John Kerry and then sucking up to Hillary. Bah!

I thought that legal immigrants generally had to prove that they were not indigent when they come to this country?

You are correct.
I believe Duncan Hunter’s bill projected that ban for a number of years.

John Anderson, H.Ross Perot, and Pat Buchanan are not in the same league as Duncan Hunter. FYI, Duncan Hunter has no intention of quitting.

That is supposed to be. Unfortunately, both liberal democrats and bleeding heart republicans kept handing over billions in welfare.
