The Sex Positive agenda (as pushed by Kinsey, Reich, and feminists) seeks to end all moral judgments over sexual pairings regardless of sex, age, relation, marital status, number, or species of partner(s). They want to see everyone sexually active at every age.

“Scientific” explanations for sexual fetishes is not their concern. They’d rather see humanity experience the pornicopia of all philias an become “worldly”.

Tell you that someone was "born that way" is just a quick way to blur the "ick" factor. Ultimately they want to end the moral judgements regardless of who does what.

He did manage to sneak in some of that research as well, and reached conclusions similar to Spitzer's—though peer reviewers objecting that it revives the notion that homosexuality is a mental illness have thus far prevented Karten, an academic unknown, from publishing his work.

Here's the deal: If you don't LIKE what the research says, prohibit researching in that particular area, and if research is done with conclusions you don't LIKE, make certain that it can't get published.

There is a way to settle the argument, as to whether sexual orientation can be changed. Specifically, the method is to use PET scanning to determine the metabolic response to specific human pheromones.

Heterosexual males will show a positive response to the pheromone derived from estrogen (found in female urine). Homosexual men will not.

Women will show a positive response to the pheromone derived from testosterone (found in male sweat). Homosexual males will also show a positive response to the pheromone derived from testosterone.

As to whether therapy to reverse homosexuality works or not, talk is cheap. The only thing that will settle the argument is a definitive measure of changes in brain biochemistry and metabolism.
