Passing it on.. I primarily wrote this in response to the growing “Third party” movement -— and to the who are condidering “sitting out” the election altogether to “punish” the Republican party

I believe very strongly in the TWO-PARTY system because this gives us a MAJORITY and a MINORITY.. the MAJORITY party in congress gets to chair all the committes etc.

A reason I support more Independant Congressman. By being a part of that political party, you must do what that political party wants you to to do, whether or not it really represents your state. Also, not neither party really represents me, which is another reason I support a 3rd party. No matter what, I won't feel adaquately represented because neither party fully stands for what I do.

If we had 100 "independents" in the senate.... Can you see how NOTHING would ever get done

While I too see nothing getting done, I can see what does get done actually benefitting me or my state because our interests would be placed first, instead of the interests of the party.

The GOP erased state sovereignty in 1861. Have NAFTA, CAFTA, TTC, Amnesty and UAE port authority deal not convinced you?
Some RINOS want more gun control and FedGov spending is up.

Below is from George Washington’s Farewell Address!

Warns against the party system.
“It serves to distract the Public Councils, and enfeeble the Public Administration.... agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one.... against another....
it opens the door to foreign influence and corruption...
thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.”

Stresses the importance of religion and morality.
“Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths,
which are the instruments of investigation in Courts of Justice?”

On stable public credit.
“...cherish public credit.
One method of preserving it is to use it as sparingly as possible... avoiding likewise the accumulation of debt....
it is essential that you...bear in mind, that towards the payments of debts there must be Revenue, that to have Revenue there must be taxes; that no taxes can be devised, which are not...inconvenient and unpleasant...”

Warns against permanent foreign alliances.
“It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world...”

I believe in a NO party system. It is the political parties that will eventually destroy the USA. When you are a republican or even worse a democrat first, nothing good can come from it.

Country should come before party but too often it is the other way around.

The constitution does not call for a 2 party system. In fact, it doesn’t call for any parties at all.

And it doesn’t forbid parties.

1,2, 3,4, 5.....1019 It’s all the same to me.

I have long thought that a viable 3rd party would be a good thing for America.

The system is corrupted. The Republican Leadership Council is the entity with the money and they are globalists! Only globalists need apply. Same with The Dems. These two talk a slightly different game but they do the same thing. Notice despite all the sound and fury the war in Iraq is still funded. Any truly conservative candidate will be run over by the 100’s of millions of dollars that the RLC has from corporations. The Dems do it with the Union (and corporate) dollars. Corporations don’t have free speech individuals do! corporate (and union) money is bribe money for access and that access causes action in the corporations and unions favor. Only a RINO will be allowed to take the nomination. The system has got to be cleaned up from the ground up. The Republican Leadership Council isn’t going to let that happen from within.
Sad but true. A rising third party is the only hope.

George Washington was for the NO politcal party system, and he explained why very eleoquently in his farewell address after serving two terms as our 1st President.

It is that model and that wise advise that we somehow, need to get back to. Everything he warned against we are experiencing.

In the mean time, we are horribly entwined and embroiled in what we have and need to make the best of it, but IMHO, to do so in an effort to get back where his advise would lead us.

David, I like and respect you a lot, but the “...therefore I am a Republican” statements are just non sequitors. Therefore I am a conservative? Yes. But with the group over the last six years, I can’t agree.

Here's my formula ... affiliate with your heart and vote with your head.

By this I mean register yourself with whatever entity best represents your views, but then vote for the closest one that has a real chance of winning.

Imagine the affect on the Republican Party if it's members started signing up with the Constitution Party(!)

I might agree with your assessment, if I thought that voting Republican would actually accomplish any of the things on the Republican to-do list.

Thanks for the ping, david. Good thread. Allow me to insert MHO here for a minute:

l. No Federal funding for private or religious schools. Federal funding ALWAYS comes with strings.

2 Perpetuate the two party system! FDT’s McCain-Feingold bill opened the doors for George Soros’ Moveon to dominate the Democrat Party with soft money, while, to my knowledge, the Republican Party gets none.

3. People MUST be more discriminating about the record of encumbants before voting them back into office by name recognition only. BUT because they do not, term limits for Congress should be imposed.

In my seven decades, I have not seen so much at stake as is at stake with the 08 elections, both for the Commander in Chief, and for Congress. Wake up, America, or there will no longer be an America as we knew her to be.
