why 5 years? The only thing that kept them from incorporating a 3G radio was a power/draw/size trade off. I cant beleieve they wont have that fiexed shortly.
With competitions from other phones that have 3G, and 3G coverage expanding, getting a 3G iPhone launched is the #1 upgrade for iPhone 2.0.

Now it comes down to a few factors -
How soon they can get the chips, assuming that the “big boys” will have first crack at them from the manufacturers.
How soon they think they can get away with telling all the folks that bought the 1st ones that now they really, really need the newer version.
If AT&T will let people out of their original two year contract to buy the new one.
Not going to wait for GPS ?
