I do think you are being reasonable about that. I was part of an early “mega-church” and can relate to many of your concerns. I saw the church grow like crazy, based around one very talented and charismatic man and then at it’s height collapse in scandal, infighting and schemes. I would never want to see that happen to anyone. It was very disillusioning and many never really recovered their faith. I blame the Pastor at the top but also all of us that let it happen. I never trust any “ministry” that starts naming things after the principals involved. If they issue a Bible with their name on it, they are completely written off.

I can appreciate that for sure (though I do confess, I do like John MacArthur :))
I teach a Sunday school where we are on Revelation right now. Was talking about false prophets and I tied it into how we have this cult of celebrity in America and it is very much a part of the church. You can like a preacher, but never exalt him to that kind of status. Compare EVERYTHING with the Word. And follow GOD, not man above all.
