A chile cook-off?
“Maybe we can get 10,000 truckers to clog the beltway...”
Very French. I don’t recall if it worked for them.
You agree with the level of taxation on a gallon of fuel.
I guess I’ll have to top off on the 14th and fill up again on the 16th. That’ll show them!
A liberal friend asked me to join this protest...I told her I don’t understand how it would work when every driver would gas up their car the day before, thus causing a huge increase in demand. I think she was going to cry.
I’m starting to like France as much as Frenchmen like Sarkozky. Didn’t we do this truck slowdown thing in 1979? As I recall it was frenchmen and tractors in Paris, yes Paris in the spring.
If you look behind the curtain the new diesel low sulfur regs are hurting refining. Refinery capacity is down from the usual 92-94% to 88% or so. This means less to go around. The new diesel fuel sucks, my truck hates the stuff.
Building a new refinery or 2 would help a whole lot more. I think you know who opposes that.
The only way to impact gas prices would be to reduce driving, and/or increase gas mileage. Increase supply and prices will drop. Basic stuff. This stunt will only cause more buying on the day before and the day after, but unless total miles driven changes, people will have to buy the same amount of gasoline. A one day drop will be followed by a one day bump.
It’s the beginning of May, aren’t we supposed to be bitching about the evils of Cinco De Mayo? Much better than recycling an 8 year-old e-mail chain of a stupid plan that wouldn’t do anything http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/gasout.asp
No one day boycott of ANYTHING will EVER effect the prices ONE BIT. Think about it, think about it slowly and thuroughly and the whole foolishness of the idea becomes crystal clear. Of course if that doesn’t work read the Snopes link.
What are these "Conumers"? and if they do work, where can I buy one? I want my gas prices to drop.
the problem with gas prices owes to the impeachement of richard m. nixon.
while the country’s attention was fixed on watergate,
opec formed.
then, jimmy carter let iran go bezerk.
the so-called “american empire” has been imploding since.
I dunno but if the prices creep very much higher I may have to quit driving my 10 mpg vehicle for my daily commute and seek something that gets a little better mileage.
Thats called reducing consumption, or reducing demand.
Much more sensible than not buying gas on one day but then buying the day after.
a shiny new refinery would be beautiful. The point of the gasout is to reduce consumption. Our just in time delivery system means that a hiccup in consumption could break the price spiral.
I’ll be in Thailand, so I’m only buying Thai gas on May 15th!

Using and buying the same amount of gasoline during the month of May, but giving the local service stations a day of rest only convinces the “big oil” companies that many people do not understand supply and demand.
And the claim that this worked once before is Urban Legend.
I was making a joke concerning when the French go on strike they use their trucks to block the highways into Paris.
I don’t know why that is so difficult to understand. I had a leftist PhD I work with here ask me to join them on the 15th against the eeevil oil companies. I asked her if she would need to get gas on the 14 or 16th to get to work. I got a slightly confused stare, then a yes. This woman has a PhD!
