High capacity ammo clips became widely available for sale when Congress failed to renew a law that banned assault weapons.
Web sites now advertise overnight UPS delivery of the clips, which carry up to 40 rounds for both semi-automatic rifles, including 9mm pistols, and handguns.
"High capacity magazines read extreme firepower and gusto. Stock Up!" is the headline of one of many gun shop Web sites.
Virginia law enforcement officials have not identified the weapon used in the shootings today at Virginia Tech, but gun experts say the number of shots fired indicate, at the very least, that the gunman had large quantities of ammunition.
"When you have a weapon that can shoot off 20, 30 rounds very quickly, you're going to have a lot more injuries," said Paul Helmke of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
"It's not one or two shots at a time when you're putting 20 bullets, spraying them into a classroom or into a dorm room," Helmke said.
didnt take them long to blame the guns. Anyone stop to think that the guy who actually did the killing is responsible. Or that if people on campus where allowed to carry and protect themselves someone would have put this guy on the ground before all the deaths.
Spray rounds with a semi auto? Never seen that. Still come out one at a time, as fast as you can pull the trigger. The mags (not clips) cycle rounds slower than a quick finger and a revolver do. see this Much faster than a glock 19 and walther p22 (read that those were the guns used)
Thanks for posting this . It’s important to know what the shameless Anti’s are gearing up for next ...
Keep guns, licensed or not, off campus (It's a little old, but guess where it's from.)
They've done a good job on the sheeple.
The big lie here , is that during the Klinton ban, it only prohibited new manufacture of high cap mags and semi-autos. It never banned the possession, buying, or selling of hi-cap mags or semi-auto weapons with the “evil” look .
I blame universities. If there were no universities, there would be no campus crime.
Saw this one coming a mile away. Inasmuch as we don’t even know the shooter’s name at the moment nor what “clips” (I believe the reporters meant “magazines”) were used this whole thing reeks of irrelevant opportunism, does it not?
Brian Ross and opportunism? Heaven forfend!
its ridiculous. 2nd amendment is designed to stop a rogue overreaching gov’t, but it does a world of good on a psycho trying to kill you as well. People kill people, not guns.
If that "paranoid" student had his gun this murderer could possibly have been stopped w/o killing 3 dozen people.
Nonsense! The last thing that Virginia Tech needs is a student body licensed to carry concealed handguns on campus and to class. It would surely be an invitation for senseless and tragic accidents, woundings and killings, something that the university has avoided these many years under a policy that prohibits students from carrying concealed handguns, licensed or not, on campus.
he should probably rethink that
In the extended Nightline story tonight on this shooting, they mentioned that the dems gave up on gun control as they thought it was a loser. As usual, they conveniently ignored the new HR 1022 from Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY).
Yeah HB-1022 is looming out there. They introduce these bills in every session and now they might assume that they have some momentum . This will be a true test to see if the Dims are still scared or not of pushing more gun control .
Speaking of large ammo
I understand the Swedish 155mm Bandkanon 1A loaded its ammo in a 14 round clip - are they legal now?
Don’t miss their poll:

Is Shooting Grounds for Gun Control?
I cast my vote.. what a stupid poll
And what gun critics refuse to acknowledge is that if other students had been armed, the shooter would never have gotten off that many shots before being put down by a law abiding citizen carrying his or her constitutionally guaranteed firearm.
But let's not let logic get in the way of them making a point about how evil guns promote violence.
F'n idiot.
You do not get a KIA/WIA ratio like the shooter did "spraying" bullets. This guy was tactically effective.
If he could take the time to carry chains and padlocks for the doors, a couple more reloads would not have made any difference--especially against an unarmed, confined pool of victims.
