Geneva On The Lake in Ohio

OMG! My parents have family in NY so every spring and fall, we would travel from SW Ohio to NY, every trip passing by the signs for Geneva on the Lake. Every trip my mom would say, "We HAVE to go see that place." So, one trip we had some extra time. Turns out we didn't need much. We headed down the street and the signs pointed us to basically a dead-end. Or my dad got lost and this is where we ended up. Nevertheless, the parking lot led us to a spot that had severe bank erosion. We were all like, "That's it, huh?" And we got back on the highway.

My very first memory of life was the waves of Lake Erie splashing up against the sands of Geneva on the Lake. I remember bouncing an inflatable ball up and down and yelling “HERBIE! HERBIE!” Herbie being a childhood friend of mine who looked like Charlie Brown. I had just turned 3 years old at the time. A few months later we moved to Cleveland.
