Fred Thompson in 1994: Let The Woman Decide - Monday, April 09, 2007 @ 3:06:23 PM
|
During his first run for the U.S. Senate, Fred Thompson said in an interview to a libertarian Republican newsletter that the ultimate decision to have an abortion "must be made by the woman."
The comments were made in the July/August issue of Republican Liberty, the official newsletter of the Republican Liberty Caucus.
In the interview, Thompson was asked: "Some conservatives got flustered by your comments on abortion and Roe vs. Wade. Would you like to explain your position on abortion?"
Thompson answered: "Government should stay out of it. No public financing. The ultimate decision must be made by the woman. |

Exactly!
See post 14, these Rudy supporters are actually proud that Rudy is “honest” and hasn’t changed his position on abortion, they think its ok if we fund abortions, they think its ok that Rudy is still a liberal.
Personally I find nothing wrong with the age difference and would love to see the young children of this couple frolicking on the White House lawn.
independent women will not like the idea - middle aged women especially resent the idea that a successful older man “trades in” his wife for a younger model, much younger in this case.
You’re right, I must be getting sleepy. Maybe after a good night of sleep I will be Wide Awake again, and I’ll be proud of rudy and his adherence to his pro-abortion ways.
The vast majority of independent and jealous middle aged women in all likelihood are in Hillary's camp anyway so I'm not to concerned.
Can’t the pubbie party find somebody better than Rudy? There are some really conservative candidates out there. If we can’t do better than him you all better kiss this country Good-by.
Imagine if this was 1980 and the internet and Free Republic were up and thriving. Somebody - - maybe a Howard Baker, George H.W. Bush, or John Anderson troll - - would post a story with the headline:
"As California governor, Reagan in 1967 signed one of the most liberal abortion laws in the country"
People can change their minds and revise their positions after 13 years.
I believe Fred Thompson is an honest man and I will certainly give him the benefit of the doubt.
Most politicians mouth the pro life stance to appease the ardent pro lifers. But “oficially” they think government should stay out of the issue and leave it to the states, which is my position.

You are too naive if you believe this. Most politicians believe abortion should be kept out of politics, with a few exceptions. They HATE the issue. I agree with them. I don’t like Roe v Wade. Get the Federal Govt out of the issue and work on keeping our country sovereign

The abortionists were arrested.

Yes, and that is the alternative to government intrusion. In addition, I would propose making ultrasounds freely available so women could see their babies, a simple step that opens up the maternal instincts in most women.
Of course they do. They will say anything to please their constituents.
Of course it should be posted, examined, and thought over. Which it has been, repeatedly.
The real question is: why is it being posted multiple times a day?
Why should she receive any public assistance at all for a purely elective procedure? Maybe they should pay for her facelift too?
Anyway, the correct answer is that once the federal government is out of it, it IS up to the state, where citizens have more direct input and control, at least in theory. It's such a simple answer even Rudy should have thought of it.
I thought he was single for a decade or so before remarrying. That's not my idea of a trade-in.
And where do you get the basis for that? I work with politicians and have for nearly 20 years. The ones who are prolife are prolife to the core.
I know you WISH that no one cared and that the issue would go away, but that's your problem not ours. You should deal with whatever it is that causes you to feel that way. Meanwhile as many Americans as were killed on 9/11 continue to be killed every single day. Intelligent people everywhere know it. That's why the issue won't go away.
