Fred Thompson in 1994: Let The Woman Decide - Monday, April 09, 2007 @ 3:06:23 PM

During his first run for the U.S. Senate, Fred Thompson said in an interview to a libertarian Republican newsletter that the ultimate decision to have an abortion "must be made by the woman."

The comments were made in the July/August issue of Republican Liberty, the official newsletter of the Republican Liberty Caucus.

In the interview, Thompson was asked: "Some conservatives got flustered by your comments on abortion and Roe vs. Wade. Would you like to explain your position on abortion?"

Thompson answered: "Government should stay out of it. No public financing. The ultimate decision must be made by the woman.

“Fred Thompson was never prochoice.”

And how would you know for a fact? I guess we’ll have for, if and when he declares, at which time I’m sure it will come up.

Sorry, it wasn’t meant as a response to you at all. Which is why I double posted it, once I realized that I meant to address Hostage.

He’s getting that as a third hand rehash from the brilliant Israeli scientist Haim Harari who published the most insightful essay in history regarding the War on Terror.

So he’s not impressing me when I see him cobble together ideas that should be credited to another.

He’s a mannequin.

Cash in your chips.

A tree is known by its fruit.

You seem intent on judging a book by its cover and swallowing disinformation without knowing it’s poison.

Of course he’s losing in votes nationally. He has 50% the name recognition. But he’s consistently within striking distance in New Hampshire (tied in the latest) and Michigan, where he has 75% of the name recognition of Giuliani and McCain, in the teens in Iowa and (now) in South Carolina, where he has 60% of the name recognition of McCain and Giuliani. I think Romney will a fantastic president and I have no intention of “cashing in my chips”. He’ll be around come Super-Tuesday, and I’ll happily cast my vote for him then, win, lose, or draw.

He’s got more $$$ and he’s been in campaign mode for longer than most others.

I know the feeling of suffering an investment loss on a promising business model and being in denial, and confusion as to why others did not see what I saw. But at some point you have to cut your losses and get on with it.

Discover FDT and you will feel a huge sense of relief.

Because that’s politics. The things I care about, not everyone else does. The things other people care about, I necessarily do not.

Look how many evangelicals split away from Bush the last weekend in 2000 - over a 30+ year old DUI arrest. Did you care? I didn’t, but alot of other people felt otherwise.

I've seen him speak in person a few times and, rest assured, he is no mannequin. You seem to have the need to besmirch his fine oratory skills for whatever reason. It's your right to be petty and wrong, I guess.

Bill Clinton is very good at oratory too. Does not mean I wanted to vote for him.

Apples and oranges. His young family will be on the scene. Sure “some” will find fault, but that minority always finds fault.

How is changing one's mind in favor of life and backing up the change vote after vote a bad thing? Why does this have to be repeated ad nauseum?

If you want to question Thompson's changing his mind on an issue, the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform is worth discussing.

It's not just Rudy fans that are attacking Thompson for not being pro-life enough. He's getting hit from the right as well.

Unlike E.V., I don't have a problem with Thompson's positions.

But I am amazed at how you folks keep saying "we're just posting what Rudy said," but when a direct quote from Thopmson is given it's a "distortion."

I'm not trashing Thompson. He's just about the only one of the other possibilities that I think has a prayer of getting the nomination. But he's going to have to be ready to answer those questions.

my advice to Thompson - start making your wife look older. Tell her to start getting only 4 hours sleep per night. cut back on the makeup.
