No hypocrisy, just principles. The problem is that the left, the Democrats, and the liberal RINOs don't understand what religious and moral principles are.
Done...
"If two senior people in my company were vying for the post of CEO, the last thing I'd do -- especially if I had plans to stay around for a long time -- would be to publicly endorse one over the other. "
Ah, so you'd rather take no stand at all in the name of self-interest than perhaps take a stand which might pay off later, and make a definitive choice? Let's not even begin to examine the potential conundrums between silence and principles.
Perhaps the Giuliani-endorsing-Cuomo bit was a gamble on Rudy's part, and one that didn't work (but you can see the logic in it, if you honestly try), but you do have to give him credit for having the guts to put it on the record and then to stand by it. Particularly when it wasn't a popular statement to make. Not many politicians would do this. I think this is far more illuminating with reagrds to character than anything else.
Five-one, while I have often agreed with you on much of the Rudy opposition on FR, I have to agree with Neo vis-a-vis Mrs. Mitt: If Rudy's family should be off-limits, so Romney's should be given the same consideration.
Remember, we're trying to be fair here.
Well I guess you are right - I agree. All families should be off limits.
It's amazing how many people quote Scripture when it serves their purpose. Even Hillary did that this past weekend.
"The problem is that the left, the Democrats, and the liberal RINOs don't understand what religious and moral principles are."
I was raised a Catholic, educated in Catholic schools in Brooklyn at the hands of black-belt Dominican nuns, Jesuits and LaSallian Brothers (in the Borough of Churches, no less! More churches per square mile than any place on earth outside of Rome!), and know full well what religious and moral pincinples are.
Don't presume to lecture me on them, as I probably know them better than you do thanks to the daily beatings and extreme cult of unreasonable Catholic guilt (/sarcasm).
And as for "liberal RINOs", the GOP is a traditionally liberal party (learn something about Classical Liberalism before you pretend to know what liberalism is), and it is not "liberal RINOs" that are "ruining" the GOP, but over-zealous religious bigots and self-appointed busy-bodies who are pulling it ever-further from it's traditionally liberal roots, who are.
Baloney. He was counting on Cuomo to help prop up the city's finances to the tune of billions of dollars in state aid. He knew Pataki wasn't likely to go along with that idea.
In other words, Rudy the "fiscal conservative" was supporting a governor whose fiscal policies were a complete disaster -- and opposing a governor whose fiscal policies might actually help the State of New York at the expense of New York City.
.....I agree.....talking about other's marriages is a bit grasping at straws....it always sounds like sour grapes....
Your hatred and venom speak volumes of your religious and moral principles.
US Grant, Republican president 1868-1876, voted for James Buchanan, DEMOCRAT, for president in 1856. Guess you would have disqualified him as a candidate too.
Are you even a Republican?
Logic seems to be left at the door on all Rudy threads.
"He was counting on Cuomo to help prop up the city's finances to the tune of billions of dollars in state aid. He knew Pataki wasn't likely to go along with that idea."
Ahem...the City of New York pays far more to Albany's coffers than it ever seems to get in return. It also pays far more to the Fed'ral Gubmint than it ever seems to get in return, and all of this with the greatest engine of unbridled Capitalism right in it's midst.
As for "propping up" the city's finances: Guiliani took a city perpetually in deficit and left it with a surplus of $4billion dollars (which quickly turned to a $6 billion deficit under the Pataki/Bloomberg team, which resulted in an 18% property tax hike), and he did it with lower taxes and greater accountability and efficiency in city government.
What Giuliani hoped to achieve with cuddling up to Cuomo was to get Mario to stick a crowbar in Albany's wallet and give the city it's just due and not a penny more.
I should have been more clear in my post. The underlying assumption here was that both people were equally qualified. I'm really going out on a limb to give Giuliani the benefit of the doubt here -- since back in 1994 there was no way in hell Cuomo and Pataki were "equally qualified" to serve in elected office. Pataki may have been no better than Cuomo, but at the time he had the distinct advantage of NOT being the guy who ran New York State's finances into the toilet over the previous 12 years.
Why was it "not a popular statement to make?" Cuomo carried New York City by pretty wide margins over Pataki in 1994.
Half of Romney's vote at CPAC came from the kids he brought to the conference and paid their fees. Since he had a huge presence and Rudy none to speak of his "victory" is rather hollow. Good political propaganda but nothing of substance.
It wasn't thousands. Mitt paid for and brought 200 supporters. Hence 10% of the 21% he received were from voters who were hired hands.
"Your hatred and venom speak volumes of your religious and moral principles."
I've treated you with nothing but respect on this thread and I'm a venomous, hateful person?
Well given Hunter was wiped out at CPAC who is your great white hope now?
