At this point, our top three choices are Mitt Romney (pro abortion, pro gay marriage until about a week ago), John McCain (Captain Queeg on steroids), and Rudolph Giuliani (tough on crime, soft on social issues). Of those three, the man most qualified to be President and wage the War On Terror, is Giuliani. And he can win the general election.

You may call that being a CINO. I call it realistic.

I agree with this post.

I almost certainly will support another candidate in the primaries. If, however, Rudy Giuliani is the nominee of the Republican Party, especially if the other side nominates Hillary Clinton, I will work my gluteal area off for his election and vote for him without any question. Period.

Somebody wants to call me a liberal, take your best shot. The only person I have to convince of my conservatism is the one who looks back at me in the morning when I apply Nivea shaving cream to my face and employ my Bic disposable razor.

Somebody wants to say I'm sacrificing principle, again take your best shot. My only comment would be that the spectre of a Hillary Clinton presidency with a Democratic Congress is enough to make me unwilling to fall on my sword like Saul and opt out of the process or toss away my vote on a third- or fourth-party candidate for any one or two or three single issues, social or otherwise.

I'll put it this way. If 50 percent of what I want in my heart of hearts is the best I can get ... the absolute, bottom line best I can get ... then do I take that and make the best of it, or do I risk getting stuck with zero percent by holding out for the unachievable 100 percent?

That's true, but we need to examine why its the case that three liberals are the top three choices. If Republicans said and acted in a manner that they would only vote for conservatives, then there would be no RINOs in the top three. What happens is that the GOP is masters of convincing y'all that the only thing that matters is the next election, and electing the guy with the R next to his name. When you point out that the guy with the R next to his name is a liberal, they say "well yeah, but the primaries are the time to fight for conservatives". Then, when the primaries come along, people like you say "well we have to vote for one of the guys the RNC and the media have been promoting".

It's a losing game for America, and everyone who participates in their game is responsible for it.

To quote the WOPR: "Strange game doctor, it seems the only winning move is not to play".

I look at the coming election and I see a national disaster. If Giuliani is elected with conservative support then the next elections will be run with the politicians' knowledge that Conservatism is dead and we won't have much in the way of choice above the local level and we will have a couple more generations to build conservatism again. If we let the Democrat get elected, especially if it is Mrs. Clinton then we will get the Congress back in two years, maybe even the senate. If WE elect Giuliani then we are looking at the Congress we will have for at least 6 years with further left development. As far as the war is concerned, Giuliani will pull his punches and refuse to see just who is the enemy just like any other Republican in prospect.

Though Rudy is definitely the best bet among the Rudy McRomney set (and McCain is totally unfit) we conservatives are suckers if we decide to back a guy who doesn't fit our values 20 months out from the election. I can think of a couple of times when somebody that didn't have good name recognition even among wonks became the nominee of their party. Where, for instance, was Bill Clinton polling in November of 1992?

If Rudy's the nominee I won't sulk and throw my vote away on a third party, but anybody who is backing "the guy who's sure to win" this early is a media stooge.

Yeah, I knew months ago that my choices for the GOP nominee were not going to be my ideal candidates. But you go to war with the army that you have.
