It wasn't just Jews they killed. It was an idea. The unwillingness to fight for their countries and their identities was weakened in WWI, and the vestiges were destroyed completely in WWII. The collective guilt and rejection of discrimination (in the positive sense of choosing right versus wrong) has really taken a toll.

It is always about finding a scapegoat to blame for their own failures. Never assuming responsibility for the situation but making excuses, blaming others, etc.
Nothing has changed.
The jewish people are a passive minority and the perfect target. It can and will happen again.
