The Christian-Democrat – conundrum

Posted on 02/11/2007 1:47:03 PM PST by street_lawyer

If you support abortion and homosexual marriage, then you are a Democrat, but you are not a Bible believing Christian. If you believe that God and the State are so incompatible that any mention of His name must be banned from the public schools, then you are a Democrat, but you are not an evangelist, and if you also believe that all religious symbols must be banned from the public square, you are a Democrat, but you know nothing about the “First Amendment”.

Recently I overheard two Christians debating whether Obama is a Muslim or a Christian. Neither of them mentioned the fact that he is pro Abortion. We as Christians should not allow the liberal media to focus our attention on Obama, and forget that Hillary is the most viable Democratic presidential candidate in ’08. No one should have to remind me that Hillary is not only pro-abortion, but she is pro-gay-marriage. Read her comments to a family planning group regarding the case that legalized abortion: “Today Roe is in more jeopardy than ever, and I look forward to working with all of you as we fight to defend it in the coming years.” The Gay City News reported that, Hillary will not be defending the institution of marriage ie: she supports gay marriage.

But the real issue in my mind is whether any true Christian can be a Democrat today. I think not, for the following reasons. Abortion is clearly contrary to the law of God. Perhaps some can dismiss this obvious incompatibility with the Bible by saying that abortion is the law of the land, and we must give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s. I realize that the only way to change the law on Abortion is to overturn Roe v. Wade, or pass a constitutional amendment, but neither of those difficult options void the principle that we should be voting for men, or woman with whom we have a moral equivalent.

If it were not for the Christian conservative vote that put this President into office, we would not have two new conservative justices on the Supreme Court. Still some conservatives can not forgive Bush for taking a liberal stand on the immigration issue. Now that he gave us what we wanted in ’04, namely two truly conservative justices, can we now join in with liberals on bashing him for his immigration policies, or you fill in the blank policies? One can not equate the issue of immigration to the safety of American here at home and abroad. One can not equate the issue of immigration to that of Abortion and gay marriage. The one lesson I have learned in the many years of practicing law is that compromise is preferable to defeat.

Most support for this President comes from Christians, and Jews who know the evils of Radical Islam. Many who read this are not lemmings who follow the N.Y. Times and the other left leaning news outlets, but given the fact that the President’s approval rating is lower then whale excrement, which is at the bottom of the ocean, the liberals have won the battle for the minds of Americans for the time being.

If the lineup for '08 is Hillary/Obama on the one hand, and on the other, McCain/Rudy. Conservatives are 'otta here.

Third Party here we come.

Obama may very well be a Christian. Nevertheless he is wrong, and I will not vote for him.

Obama says he is a member of the United Church of Christ.

I retrieved the following from Wikipedia on "United Church of Christ""

According to John Evans, associate professor of sociology at University of California, San Diego, "The UCC is clearly going after a certain niche in American society who are very liberal and have a particular religious vision that includes inclusiveness… They are becoming the religious brand that is known for this."

In the second major commercial, known as the "Ejector Seat" commercial, church pews "eject" people in a fashion similar to aircraft ejector seats; among the persons "ejected" from the church are an African American mother holding a crying infant, two men holding hands, an Arab-American man, and a person with a walker. The commercial again concluded with the line "Jesus didn't turn people away. Neither do we", and cut to a scene of a diverse church gathering and a voice-over stating "The United Church of Christ: No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you're welcome here."

The resolution "In support of equal marriage rights for all", supported by an estimated 80% of the 884 General Synod Delegates, made the United Church of Christ General Synod the first major Christian deliberative body in the U.S. to make a statement of support for equal marriage rights for all people, regardless of gender, and is hitherto the largest Christian denominational entity in the U.S. supporting equal marriage rights.

He's already setting it up:

"I'm a Christian, and Christians can support gay marriage."

They just had to put that sentence in there. Most of his disapproval is caused by the DBM's manipulation of news and timing of news releases.

I wish I could believe that the President's approval rating is not low and that the polls are wrong. But given how the Republicans lost in the last election, I tend to believe that the liberal media has people convinced that Bush lied, we are loosing the war in Iraq, Giuliani is a "bad person", etc.

No other president has had to endure the constant battering by the DBM like Bush has, and his approval rating is low because of that. If you look how many news anchors and reporters are liberal, you will find that there is no fair and balanced reporting.

Even Fox is turning liberal. There aren't many conservatives in any major network. I rarely turn on the TV, except to see the weather reports.

People are so impressionable these days. Some people believe everything they read and/or hear. It's really quite pathetic. Instead of people doing their own research, they rely on the news stations and newspapers who are clearly biased.

No kidding. I get almost all my news from Free Republic these days. I happened to hear Rush talking about this site and signed up the same day.

BTW, welcome to FR and thanks to your husband for his service. I've been in the military since 1972. Just a few more years till retirement.

We still have about 10 years left until my husband is able to retire. I should also say thanks to you!

I met some guys from this site at an anti-anti war protest the other night. They gave me the link. Kristinn is his name, I believe.

I cut my cable bill some time ago, never felt better.
