No doubt it is depressing. Goldwater could not even hold an ounce of water in the climate of today. It's almost as if supporting liberty is a no-win platform. Can you really imagine, in 2008, candidates running on "abolishing taxation and leaving marriage to private institutions"?

It's not the fact that people oppose liberty that bothers me. It is the fact they act like they don't.

What I see in this article is way too many labels. Things should only be dissected when they are dead.

The problem with Conservatism is a loss of direction, allowing those outside to define what is and is not, conservatism. Most of this has come from those whom we have elected to lead us, something they have not even come close to accomplishing.

We need a leader(s) who can coherently define in few and simple terms what conservatism (substitue COMMON SENSE, a commodity to which seems to be in terribly short supply across the entire political spectrum) actually means. That will not come from any of the RINO, Media-whores, who presently lead the polls.

The Contract With America was a perfect example of a statement that united and motivated the American voters (who are rapidly becoming less and less such).

You have it exactly ass backwards. Marriage is about PROTECTING it as a private insitution from the assaults of totalitarian Judges.

Doing NOTHING about anything ever is NOT defending Liberty. What the "Libertarians" advocate is a meek surrender to the Socialist Left's dogmas. Don't do anything to fight back. Do NOTHING ever. The minute anyone does anything to reign in the out of control Judicial Activist of the Left, the Libertines start whining about "the Republicans being as bad as the Democrats".

Until the 100%ers get over this petulent need to whine EVERY time the slightest little thing in politics does NOT go exactly the way they feel it should, no center-right candidate will ever win another national election.

Make peace with it. The Political Right is far too interesting in shooting their own in the back to ever fight the REAL enemy, the Socialist Left. It will be President Hillary Clinton in 2008 and the cause with be this pathetic inability of the 100%ers to focus on the REAL threat rather then each other.
