No kidding. Gotta think deep in some file cabinet in the Pentagon is a "what-if" plan for a nuclear strike on Canada. Doesn't mean it will ever happen.

Exactly. This jerk paper could just as easily have published the screaming headline:

"PENTAGON PLANS NUCLEAR STRIKE ON MOSCOW, BEIJING, PYONGYANG, TEHRAN, ISLAMABAD,(add your own)..."

This is hysteria reminiscent of the Reagan years, when the U.S. was accused of planning to blow up the USSR with Pershing IIs from Germany, 6 minutes away fom Moscow.

But saying that would make the story less panicky, and journalism, after all, is primarily about fanning as many negative emotions as possible (and it sells!).
