Just my two cents worth but "I don't wish to discuss my personal life with you officer" seems to me to have been a long enough sentence for the officer to make such a judgement.

What happened here, IMO, is that the carefully planned setup and that exact sentence "I don't wish to discuss my personal life with you officer did exactly what was hoped for and expected.
In this case they were hoping for LEOs with a big ego.
