What is done to any American is done to all Americans.

Why do you believe the problems would be few, when so many were reported, and others went unreported or the reports weren't processed properly? Why do you believe that the problems would be isolated, when the same defective systems are being forced on so many large population centers?

Why do you imagine that preferable systems should be abandoned when they are not as problematic?

Hear, Hear! Those scanners are incredibly easy to manipulate.

I finally got my hubby to vote for the first time since Ronald Reagan. When we left the polls we were so depressed. His words " See, I told you its hardly worth your time, they will probably be dumped out".

I had a bad feeling because we wanted to get rid of Julia Carson here in Indy. Her minions had been screwing around all day with the voters.

It is truly tragic when any American becomes distrustful of the handling of his vote.

The founders of the USA fought for the right to vote, and it is now up to us to carry on that worthy effort.

There is a total lack of integrity in our country today. We the people still wish for an honest election, but those in charge lack moral fortitude. Winning to have power and push an agenda have become more important than truth and the will of Americans.

Sad state for this country. We cannot even get the government to enforce the laws. How will we ever get them to have fair elections? I see our country as heading down the road of sham elections like many 3rd world countries.

You are right. Many of us still feel that America is worthy of our efforts in defense, no matter how difficult the struggle. There is no more worthy cause than that of representation in government.

Why would you consider totally non-auditable 'vote' counts from systems known to lose, switch, and fake votes, to be a 'success'?

"Known" to do these things? Alleged, certainly. Known, hardly.

I dislike the electronic voting systems because they operate on software (I am in the aerospace software industry). I distrust them because there is no auditable paper trail. However, I do not know of any proven instances of fraud committed using these machines.

If you have any expertise in the 'bald-faced lie' department, it may only be in the production of such, if you attempt to claim that mystery boxes running mystery software operated by mystery individuals would constitute valid vote-counting.

You might try to establish your words as factual before accusing someone else of prevaricating.

NO, no, no...the liberals all said that voting machines that looked and acted like ATMs were a good thing.

Ops, my bad. Most bad things ARE started by liberals.

You are right to distrust the electronic voting systems, and for the reasons you mention.

It is, however, known that the systems lose votes, as in soaring undervote rates. It is also known that the systems switch votes, as many who attempted to vote for Rick Santorum learned as they watched their votes changed. It is also known that the systems generate fake votes, as there are numerous documented occasions where more votes than registered voters were returned in precincts.

I stand by my statement that anyone attempting to claim that the paperless electronics would offer valid elections is not telling the truth.

Are you claiming you're a spokesperson for the liberals?

We conservatives want our right to vote to stay with us.

a flawed voting system is one that does not elect democrats automatically. a perfect voting system will not exist until democrats take their rightful place as the only legitimate political party.

The report, from three advocacy groups that have been critical of electronic voting, focuses on 1,022 complaints regarding electronic voting equipment from 314 counties in 36 states.

Out of how many people voting in how many precincts on how many machines are we talking about here...

You make an interesting point about the media coverage. The community of computer security scientists certainly take this issue very seriously.

Do you assume there were somehow no unreported errors? That wouldn't be justified. Some errors also go undiscovered. One of the many severe problems with the electronics is that they can go wrong without their problems being discoverable because they're not auditable.

Not to butt in, but this fall on A Fox and Friends show, there was a guy who had an electronic voting machine hooked up to a printout. Steve pushed the vote for a candidate. On the printout it read for another candidate. This was a way of showing how the machine could be rigged. I thought it was pretty disgusting.

I figured the RATS would like them!

I'm very wary of any electronic system that doesn't produce any kind of paper trail.

You're not butting in: you're making a valid point. The faults with the electronics are becoming more widely known, and thus less tolerable to the people of America. The only ones who like them are corrupt.

You are right about the lack of a paper trail being cause for justified suspicion.

Even the ones which do offer a printout can provide false totals, too.
