The rumor originates from the Wonkette.com website, not the most credible source around. But who knows? Maybe Bond doesn't want to be in the minority again, and he is gettting up there in years.

If it is true, I HOPE that Matt Blunt doesn't have himself appointed to the seat, which is what the source site claims.

I hadn't heard of this, either. However, if Bond vacates this seat, it means the GOP appointee will have to run not one, but two races in 2008 and 2010. I'd rather he simply stay put and retire at the end of his term in 2010.

If he chooses to leave, one interesting name that Blunt might appoint would be State Treasurer Sarah Steelman. Steelman is considered Blunt's strongest primary opponent in '08 (Blunt does not, alas, enjoy very strong approval ratings).
