Illegals have been entering America for centuries!
Ellis Island was not only NOT the only entry point in America, that process immigrants, it wasn't even the FIRST one in N.Y.C.!
Prior to the Ellis Island center, immigrants entering America in the N.Y. port area ( BTW, others were situated in South and West ) went through CASTLE GARDEN, which was located in lower Manhattan. Many people fearing that they wouldn't "pass muster", for many different and assorted reason, would jump ship and try to swim to shore. Sometimes, they had American contacts ( the coyotes of that day ), waiting in ships, at various locations, who who then get them to shore in Jersey, or another spot in New York, or to some other place.
And as "thorough" as some of you seem to think that the "inspectors" were, they weren't! Certain illnesses were checked for, but many sick people and carriers DID slip through the cracks...and criminal checks were virtually nonexistent.
Now, let's talk about CHEAP LABOR.
It wasn't ONLY on the West Coast, where Chinese were imported into America ( and no, they weren't checked for ANYTHING !) to be primarily used on building the railroads.
Now, let's fast forward just a very little bit.......
Our Southern border has been a problem, for more than a century, vis-a-vis Mexican gangsters crossing it, cheap labor coming for jobs, and all just staying here. The Pancho Vila mess was the first time that our government actually did something about it. Things sort of settled down, but by the late 1940s-early 1950s, the problems were as bad as they are now; except that smugglers were also trying to bring in Nazis, Nazi sympathizers, and Commies into this country, ILLEGALLY.
Ike did "something", but that didn't really last all that long and NOBODY has done anything much since. Oh, wait a minute, lots of border and non-border states/cites/locals have actually been doing SOMETHING for the past 50 odd years. And just WHAT have they been doing? That's the next topic!
What ALL of you who continually blame Bush forget, is that many different places have made their areas SANCTUARIES, thusly encouraging and protecting ILLEGALS.
What else has been done? Well, many different places have made it ILLEGAL for teachers, doctors, nurses, social workers, the police and firemen, etc. to tell the INS/ICE about the ILLEGALS that they know about.
And then there is Reagan's BLANKET AMNESTY; which no amount of excuses and words games can make go away, or make seem "reasonable".
Last, but by no means least, for all of you hysterics, who ONLY scream about our border with Mexico and talk about 9/11, NONE of those who flew those planes, on 9/11, came in across the Southern border; NARY A ONE OF THEM! They also all came in LEGALLY! And many terrorists DO come in across our NORTHERN BORDER......the one we share with Canada! And yet, you guys appear to not give a damn about that one.
All of your complaints about how we are losing our country, are, word for word, exact repeats of what was said about people more than 150 years ago! I do suggest that all of you go look up the KNOW NOTHINGS; hey, you will even find some "new" crazy things to throw around, when you post to FR....such things as "AMERICA WILL NO LONGER BE A CHRISTIAN COUNTRY, BECAUSE OF ALL OF THOSE CATHOLICS" and oh so much more. But sorry, the "WE WILL LOSE OUR CULTURE" is also more than a century old.
And before you start the personal attacks and name calling. NO, I am NOT for open borders and I AM all for enforcing ALL of our laws!
Simply not true. The Democrats stole the enforcement issue in some elections. Polls have shown 85% of Americans are concerned about illegal aliens. That is different than a laundry list type of poll. People uses these numbers for their own purposes.
Interesting that Arizona's immigration ballot initiatives passed by a 70% margin.
Woodrow Wilson is actually responsible for every single war, after 1919. FDR aided and abetted the USSR. Truman covered for the Commies in our government. And then, there was Carter and Clinton.
Leave your emotion behind and only look at the FACTS!
If I could ever sit down face to face with President Bush, I would ask him WHY, WHY, doesn't he do something about the open border problem down south? He HAS TO KNOW how this policy of coddling illegals so that employers can hire virtual slaves off any books and unprotected by any laws is wrong. He HAS to know most of those in his party (and plenty of those NOT in his party) are finding middle class life DYING OUT in places where illegals are plentiful. He knows how bad this is, yet he chooses to put Mexico and its leaders AHEAD of all of us. WHY?
Does he think that if we don't appease Mexico it will become a terrorist nation? Does Vicente Fox have a photo of Bush with lines on a mirror in a Mexican whorehouse? WHAT IS IT?
Some interesting responses on this thread!
"Unlike some on this forum, I don't need nuts like Simcox or Michael Weiner or Jerome Corsi telling me what to think."
I was referring to your calls for backup just in case you got 'flamed'.
So perhaps instead of 'group think', you might consider listening for a change.
I doubt your opinion will be shared by many on this thread.
Americans who vote for RATS have ZERO concern about illegals. Only the most obstuse, braindamaged idiot would think the Party of Treason would do ANYTHING about illegals. People that stupid should not be allowed to vote. They probably try and cure acne by plunging their heads into a vat of acid.
Sorry. Too many believe in George's "new America".
We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture. Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende. For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America. As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico. George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000. |
Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:
In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. My Bush Epiphany By Lawrence Auster
The Path to National Suicide by Lawrence Auster (1990)
An essay on multi-culturalism and immigration.
How can we account for this remarkable silence? The answer, as I will try to show, is that when the Immigration Reform Act of 1965 was being considered in Congress, the demographic impact of the bill was misunderstood and downplayed by its sponsors. As a result, the subject of population change was never seriously examined. The lawmakers stated intention was that the Act should not radically transform Americas ethnic character; indeed, it was taken for granted by liberals such as Robert Kennedy that it was in the nations interest to avoid such a change. But the dramatic ethnic transformation that has actually occurred as a result of the 1965 Act has insensibly led to acceptance of that transformation in the form of a new, multicultural vision of American society. Dominating the media and the schools, ritualistically echoed by every politician, enforced in every public institution, this orthodoxy now forbids public criticism of the new path the country has taken. We are a nation of immigrants, we tell ourselves and the subject is closed. The consequences of this code of silence are bizarre. One can listen to statesmen and philosophers agonize over the multitudinous causes of our decline, and not hear a single word about the massive immigration from the Third World and the resulting social divisions. Opponents of population growth, whose crusade began in the 1960s out of a concern about the growth rate among resident Americans and its effects on the environment and the quality of life, now studiously ignore the question of immigration, which accounts for fully half of our population growth.
This curious inhibition stems, of course, from a paralyzing fear of the charge of racism. The very manner in which the issue is framedas a matter of equal rights and the blessings of diversity on one side, versus racism on the othertends to cut off all rational discourse on the subject. One can only wonder what would happen if the proponents of open immigration allowed the issue to be discussed, not as a moralistic dichotomy, but in terms of its real consequences. Instead of saying: We believe in the equal and unlimited right of all people to immigrate to the U.S. and enrich our land with their diversity, what if they said: We believe in an immigration policy which must result in a staggering increase in our population, a revolution in our culture and way of life, and the gradual submergence of our current population by Hispanic and Caribbean and Asian peoples. Such frankness would open up an honest debate between those who favor a radical change in Americas ethnic and cultural identity and those who think this nation should preserve its way of life and its predominant, European-American character. That is the actual choiceas distinct from the theoretical choice between equality and racismthat our nation faces. But the tyranny of silence has prevented the American people from freely making that choice.
"so that employers can hire virtual slaves "
Oh get a grip for everyone's sake. These people are no more 'slaves' than any one else who works for a wage. They are free to quit anytime and go home. Any attempt to characterize them as 'slaves' sounds like democrat class warfare rhetoric. The next thing you'll be calling Walmart shoppers slaves to low prices.
Some think the globalists are setting the stage for Jeb's son, half Mexican George P. Bush, to continue the Bush imperial dynasty, this time in Spanish.
Somehow I think Americans have had enough of the Bush family, but how will 20 million Mexicans vote, in addition to the millions more to come if this insane amnesty is granted? What will they call it? Amexica?
How could I forget? Only the true real conservatives (aka: border bots) are the real "law and order types". Well, for now you've got your Speaker of the House. And maybe your Hillary in 2008. Then we'll really be seeing "law and order" in a President, don't you think?
I wish it to happen, I know it won't. So, I appreciate civility when I come across it, wolfcreek; and despite our differences of opinion on this matter.
On a brighter note: How DARE you differ or disagree with the impassioned arguments of the true believers! ;>
Yeah, lets leave the inflammatory rhetoric to the democrats.
And most illegals will lap it up, nursing a sense of grievance as they look forward to the day they get to cast their vote.
Yep, illegals are a made-to-order liberal constituency the likes we haven't seen since the New Deal. Great idea, letting them stay.
Then it can't have been a losing issue, either.
The pubs lost for several reasons. The hypocrisy of claiming to be for the rule of law and then allowing millions of illegals to invade our country was just one of them.
Imagine if they had actually forced the dems to filibuster nominations and bills instead of capitulating every time they whispered "filibuster"?
Imagine if they had gone out and talked about how the tax cuts were driving the economy?
Imagine if they had actually cut the federal budget instead of spending more on discretionary spending than any other congress/president combination in the history of the U.S?
Imagine if Bush had vetoed CFR instead of thinking the Supreme Court would take care of it for him?
Imagine if Congress had actually passed Social Security reform instead of running like cowards at the word "filibuster"?
Those are some that come to mind. But, the pubs lost because they sucked. Pure and simple.
I figured they would rename Mt. Soledad cross ..... the veterans memorial above San Diego.
