The Republicans will indeed go the way of the Whigs so long as a litmus test is given to the possible candidates. That's what the Dummycrats do. Why do we want to emulate their craziness?

Wrong. You're the one doing what the Democrats do...operating without any principles that you won't cede in the pursuit of power. If folks like you get your way, the GOP will be worthless to anyone who cares about restoring and defending our free republic and what it stands for.

"Principles" and about a buck might get you a cup of coffee at McDonalds but it won't win an election. We had better put our best and most dynamic candidate out there or get used to saying "President Hillary Clinton."

Without principles, what the hell does it matter...

"Process of elimination. If you sit out the election with Rudy at the top of the ticket you are effectively voting for Hillary. How will you feel when Hillary confiscates your guns, socializes medical care, cuts our defense, ramps up welfare, and puts in place all of her socialist schemes? What will you say then? If you don't vote then you have no reason to complain when Hillary remakes America in her socialist image".

How will I feel? About the same as I will when Rudy does it!

Nonsense. He couldn't possibly get this done without the Congressional acquiesense. However, Hillary with a Democratic Congress could indeed do it. You might want to start burying your weapons in the back yard for the day that she takes office.

And I think the chance he would even try would be zero and none with the emphasis on none. Hillary would have no reluctance to do so. She is, after all, a dyed in the wool socialist and "Europophile" where they do take your guns.

So make your choice. If you want to spend your time scurrying around trying to avoid Hillary's storm troopers, be my guest.

So WHAT? We now have a president who is against all those things and we still have abortion, we still have embryonic stem cell research in California and now Missouri, we have gun control in places like New York and DC. We have gay rights in many states and in some states we do not. The simple fact is a president has very little say in most of these social issues.

We are going to continue to lose on these issues unless we figure out that these are NOT political issues, they are MORAL issues.

The terrorists, however, can change these things in a minute. There will be no abortion because women will become chattle whose only function is to produce babies. Gay rights? What will they matter if the gays are all killed the moment their lifestyle is discovered. Gun control? The only ones with the guns will be the Taliban like people who patrol your neighborhood. Christian rights? HA! Ask the Christians in Iraq or Africa about those.

Rudy is tough enough to keep the barbarians from the gate, and frankly, that's what is going to matter most in the coming years.

If there was a poll taken country wide, I bet the two most unpopular decisions taken by the Republicans in the past 6 years (social issues, that is) are the Terry Schiavo case and President Bushs embryonic stem cell research stance.

By, and far, the majority of Americans were against any federal intervention in the Schiavo case. I was, personally, somewhat on their side before the federal Government (and President Bush) decided to stick their noses in it. I think, the reason people were so disgusted was because life and death are personal decisions. The embryonic stem cell issue is a little different. I was 100% behind President Bush, but only because I do not think that one penny of federal monies should be spent on it. States maybe (via Universities), but that is not the federal governments purse. But the majority of people that were against the President, were against him because they saw it as him forcing his pro - life views onto others.

The only reason I am saying this is because I think that the majority of Americans would lean more libertarian on social issues than Christian Conservative. There is nothing wrong with the Christian Conservative view (in fact I am a social conservative), but people are sick of holier than thou attitudes in this country.

In 2008 we need a leader, someone tough on terror, and Rudy may be that guy. But we must also realize that most mid Americans don't really care what the two guys that live next door are doing. That doesn't mean that they have to publically condone it, or champion it via gay marriage, etc. but in the end they see that some personal decisions should be just that, personal, and not the matter of public policy.

I am in no way trying to say your views are not important. In fact, I probably mirror your social views almost 100%, I just think that we may have to look at reality. In my district (a very red district) we had an open seat last week. We also were voting on a Gay marriage amendment. The amendment in my district was something like 65-35 for the ban, yet we voted for a Dem for only the 2nd time in 100 years to represent us. Why? Because I think the district was just sick of the hypocritical way this country has been run for the past 6 years. They were sick of Republicans claiming to be fiscally responsible, yet spending like drunk sailors. They were sick of Republicans saying they were the party of moral values, yet every week we hear about another cheater, or crook. They truly were sending a message that the Republicans must change their ways in some form, or they would be gone.

Maybe it is time to look for a new leader. If Rudy says that he is a believer in States rights, I will look at him anew. I am ready for a leader!
