Carla Marinucci's Spin Cycle: State Republicans confident of down

Beverly Hills -- If there's any sign that the Arnold Schwarzenegger camp is ready to celebrate, and celebrate big on Tuesday night, it's the balloon: hundreds and hundreds of green, orange and white balloons in Arnold campaign colors, which are arranged lovingly in nets above the stage of the International Ballroom here at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Duf Sundheim, the chair of the state GOP, has been running around since early morning -- looking busy but happy. The latest polls, he said, are more than hopeful -- and for the down ballots, "it's looking good."

State Senator Tom McClintock said this morning that his latest internal polls show him up by 4 percent over Democratic Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi in the Lt. Governor's race.

Schwarzenegger seemed positively beaming this morning as he voted with First Lady Maria Shriver -- brown shift, snakeskin spikes, natch -- in the Crestwood Hill Recreation Center in Brentwood. The pool report had the governor striding in with Shriver and son Christopher, age 9, and jokingly demanding: "Where's the voting booth for 9 year olds?"

The governor voted -- yes, very, very, very deliberately, we're told, probably taking a last minute look at the Lockyer-Parrish race and the DiFi-Mountjoy vote. (Since he's refused to say how he would vote on either.)

Then he emerged with "Flat Stanley," his son's now-famous cut-out doll who has been taken along on numerous news making gubernatorial events as part of a school project. (We assume Christopher gets an A on this one.)

... Oh yes, and they all got those cute "I Voted" stickers -- as should you all.

Me too! I loved striking my little "ink-a-vote" pen into the box next to McClintock!!!

All of those "NO" boxes were also fun!
