Simple solution: paper ballots

We had those before, didn't we? Push a pin through the piece of paper, your vote is recorded? And afterward, your ballots are there to be recounted however many times as desired.. Yes, I'm sure this was done.

Actually I was thinking more of using a pen and making a mark. Pins will do as well as pens. No puns, though.
