This is a variant of stories that have appeared in various places recently, but I didn't find this one when I searched.
Simple solution: paper ballots
They can be printed up in hours and have a built in paper trail.
No programming glitches, either
Agreed. In this case, and in most others, including the notorious chad problem, it was Democrats who built the whole mess, and then blamed it on the Republicans.
There should be a paper record that people can see. But I believe the Demorats agitated for election "reforms" before they agitated against them.
...don't expect to get election results November 8. Could be weeks before we know who "won".
Send in the lawyers, eh?
Actually I was thinking more of using a pen and making a mark. Pins will do as well as pens. No puns, though.
It's getting tiresome. When clinton left office and Bush beat al gore, we all said it was time to fix the voting process, because if the Democrats ever got into power again, they would never leave.
Clinton took the old Democrat poll corruption and raised it to whole new levels.
And since he left, things have only gotten worse, what with same-day registration, registration without any kind of ID, and various other atrocities. If the Republicans can't fix it while they are in power, what on earth are they going to do if hillary manages to put herself in charge?
How about combining the two? You could have a touch-screen machine that would print out a paper ticket with the voter's choices so they could review it before putting it in the ballot box. Then you have a paper trail, no chads (hanging, pregnant, or otherwise), no ambiguously marked check-boxes, etc.
Simple CORRECT solution: Paper ballots with PHOTO ID required.
I'm a bit concerned about a photo id because it could be considered unconstitutional on the same grounds as the poll tax unless itwas government subsidized...and I ..really...really... don't like that.
How does the requirement for proof of citizenship/identification equate to a "poll tax" or impediment to voting? Does proof of citizenship on its face cause a Constitutional infringement of rights? If one objects to identifying themselves to authorities as a "Constitutional issue", it's definitely a whole cloth argument, as one would argue that voting in the U.S. is a right of citizens, and to ask that you identify yourself as a citizen somehow is "un-Constitutional"?
"We the People of the United States" didn't provide for "We the People IN the United States", as it was not intended that whoever happened to be inside the boundaries were all included in the Declaration, but rather, those CITIZENS who were part of the U.S. were included, I think.
One of the problems with the machine paper receipt that shows how you vote is that it can be used to buy/coerce votes with the requirement that you show your "sponsor" the result of your vote to be paid or avoid punishment.
No, you don't leave the poll with the paper ballot. It's put into a box in case there is need for a recount.
That's one version. Another is you get a receipt that is yours to keep. The latter is your proof that you voted, but also can be misused.
Because it costs money to get a photo id. That's how it can be considered equivalent to a poll tax.
Programming a computer to record one thing and print another is embarrassingly easy.
The Florida debacle was a case of Democrats trying to steal an election. The problem was they underestimated the number of votes Bush received. The hanging chads were made by RATS taking stacks of ballots and running a rod through the Gore hole, thus destroying Bush votes.
See Backhoe's vote fraud vault. It explains it all.
RATS must cheat to win many elections.
