Group Seeks Support for Removal of Davis-Bacon Mandate and Guaranteed Secret Ballot Elections on Union Status

(Washington, D.C.) The National Alliance for Worker and Employer Rights announced today the release of a pledge to all candidates for Congress binding the candidates to support mandatory secret ballot elections in union representation elections and opposition to the inclusion of Davis-Bacon wage scales for workers granted worker visas under any guest worker program.

The pledge, sent to all candidates for U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives, asks the candidates to state their positions on these issues and provides an opportunity for them to comment on their views on Labor Law and its impact on the immigration debate.

“The right to a secret ballot vote is fundamental to all American principles of justice and fair play,” said Will Fine, Executive Director of the National Alliance. “There is a well funded, coordinated drive to eliminate the right to secret ballot elections over union representation and a push to force employers to simply hand over workers to union officials. We expect legislation to force workers into unions without even the right to cast a vote to be very active in the next Congress. Therefore, we think the people have a right to know where candidates stand on this issue vital to the interests and welfare of millions of American working families.”

The pledge also asks candidates their position on the highly controversial issue of mandated federal wage rates for guest workers. The Senate version of the Immigration Reform Act included a provision that required employers pay the federally mandated wage to all guest workers. In many cases this would have resulted in guest workers, non-citizens, being paid more than local American workers.

“The Davis-Bacon mandate in the Senate version is a blatant attempt to unionize non-citizens and force employers to meet the arbitrary wage scales set by union bosses,” continued Fine. “This provision is an insult to all Americans. It would put the power of the federal government firmly in the hands of union organizers.”

The Immigration Bill is expected to resurface in the next Congress, where opposition to requiring foreign workers to be paid more than American workers will face stiff opposition.

“It is our hope that all candidates will squarely and honestly address these important and vital issues,” said Fine. “The American People have a right to know if their representatives will stand up for the basic human right of being allowed to cast a secret ballot or whether they will cave in to the demands of a handful of greedy union bureaucrats. And, the American People deserve to know how those who would seek to represent them stand on giving foreign workers more privilege than that assigned to U.S. citizens,” concluded Fine

The National Alliance for Worker and Employer Rights is a non-partisan, public policy organization dedicated to protecting the rights of both employers and employees from abusive union power. The National Alliance does not endorse candidates for public office.

Just when you think you have heard it all.

I'm not sure who this is supposed to pertain to- the headline says illegals- but the article makes it sound like they are talking about legal foreign workers. In any case it would be insanity to set a different wage standard for non-citizens than for citizens.

Seems like common sense to me; but common sense is in short supply in DC it seems like.

Yes. The problem is that the article's title almost has nothing to do with the story. The story is about wages for legal non-citizens working in the U.S. on temporary work visas. By definition, such people are not illegal aliens. I say almost in reference to our wonderful group of Democratic and RINO Senators who are doing their very underhanded best to pass legislation that immediately makes all illegal aliens into permanent guest workers (and makes felons out of any U.S. authorities who question an illegal alien's paperwork, criminal history, or presence in the U.S.).

Yes, the picture of illegal immigration (which is supposed to be illegal) being shoved down America's collective throats by an American president and those others in Washington who are supposed to be representing American citizens, but aren't.

Lou Dobbs at CNN is one of the only reporters who talks about the selling out of American workers by way of allowing illegal immigration and the outsourcing of our jobs. Everyone should write their Senators and Representatives and scream about this.
